Not at all. More about reverse engineering here, and about clean room design here.
I'm sorry but your post smells of pushing your own business, which you are welcome to do in the right forum. I don't think a free software forum is the right place.
Are you trying to say that OpenCPN might be dangerous and maybe illegal?
I have followed free and open source software for a dozen years, and seen this approach before.

Sorry if it sounded that way. I am all in favour of open source and I like OpenCPN. I think it is doing a good job of raising the bar in an area which is mostly so mired in commercialism that the mariner has been getting a really bad deal of it for years. Keep up the good work.

I see you are launching a navigation programme.. What was your company developing before if youre allowed to say? What will be your competitive advantage/unique features?

My company has been developing marine navigation systems for the last decade. I would love to tell you about our new product but this thread is about object viewing classes and OpenCPN.
Not sure of the correct protocol here; maybe start another thread somewhere or the such?

Gilletarom,

your waiting is over Grab RleEditor 0.2.2 from http://redmine.kalian.cz/projects/op...n_Rules_Editor
The only change in this release is export of symbols as PNG and JPEG - of course you should prefer PNG for documentation...

I have been ''playing'' with RLEditor 0.2.2 The learning curve is rather steep...
I have actually managed to create bitmap green beacon towers instead of the colorless vector default. Turning to the top mark, I am correct in seeing a conflit (on latest S52RAZDS.RLE) between black VECTOR topmar 22 and yellow BITMAP topmar 22 with the latter winning hands on ?

believe me, not as steep as when editing the RLE file by hand If you have any usability comments, they are welcome...

It's a designed feature - the bitmaps look better and render faster, so when there are both the bitmap and vector versions, the bitmap "wins". For now I'm not deleting the redundant vector symbols - it's a trivial task for "sometimes later".
The latest, newer than CVS for 2.1.0, version of the rasterization rules is always at nohal's RleData at master - GitHub , if you consider contributing new rules and symbols, the best would be to start with that, as I will have less work identifying the changes and commiting them.
We should also plan what we are going to focus on not to do the same work twice (I've done some work on beacon towers already )
Any contribution is more that welcome - as you can see it takes a lot of time to come up with anything.
If you have any questions or need some explanation, just let me know.

Pavel....

Is the latest .RLE file suitable for inclusion with the 2.1.0 Release planned for this weekend?

Thanks for all your effort on this part. I sometimes want to strangle the designer of the RLE file format. Why not a simple (readable) XML? Oh well...

Dave,
you really never sleep Yes, I would say it is ready - the changes since the betas were just some new beacon and tower symbols and corresponding rules which I tested one by one myself and someone (JP?) on the beta thread also didn't see any problems. Let me know if you have problems downloading from github and I will place them on ftp again.

Pavel....
Please send it to me by email attachment. I can't make github work for me.

How are others downloading this?

Thanks

Thanks Pavel for this very informative answer. I had a quick look at your newest S52RAZDS.RLE. Terrific improvement over the one distributed with RC613a.
There is still the minor issue with yellow topmarks from bitmap topmar22 (e.g. Roche Bernard green tower on pic).
I won't be able to contribute during the summer (got to go sailing, you see) but will do next autumn (if there's anything left )
Cheers
