Re: WeatherFax...
Uwe, describes some problems. Troubles getting it "calibrated" then loosing all his tracks, etc. Perhaps Uwe can add more detail after questions etc.
http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ml#post1679820
Uwe, please understand that the plugin currently will lose the location data for a downloaded gif or png image from the weatherservices, when you close Opencpn. The Lat Long is NOT saved. Sean has plans to convert the image and lat long to a KAP file which contains position information, then you will not have the same difficulties. See this post and read the following posts http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ml#post1594552

Re: WeatherFax...
Here I post my original input, which I first placed in the General OpenCPN thread. In adition I read through the suggested post above, however, I am not enough into the techniques here, to be able to understand, if this addresses the problem I am seeing. In addition I went back as far as 3.3.1606, to see, if the problem came up in any later release, but this was in vain, behaviour was the same everywhere, so this seems to be a genuine Weatherfax Plugin problem. Please have a look at the description below- and if this is duplicate to a prior reported problem, please apologize. If not, and you need any additional data and/or testing, i would be glad if I can be of a little help .... :-)
Here follows the post:
Weatherfax Plugin "clobbers" route and track data
Dear all,
don't know, where to place this, as I haven't found any thread regarding weatherfax. I installed the weatherfax plugin V 1.3 and tested it recently on the latest Beta versions of OpenCPN, currently I tried 3.3.2316 but the behaviour is always the same: If you "calibrate" a weatherfax (like a TIFF image from Saildocs) everything works fine, until you close and later re-open OpenCPN. After re-opening, all the tracks and routes display very distorted, as if a huge number of waypoints is missing and you only see a VERY rough resemblance of what was a relatively smooth track or route before. Further, if - in this situation - you want to use weathermaps downloaded from the internet with the plugin, you get a message saying that the map has negative data and will therefore not be loaded. You then see the map like any image map and can re-calibrate it with the plugin. ....
To get all of this corrected, I erased all the plugin data (All Users/OpenCPN/Plugins/weatherfax) This cured the "negative map" problem and then erased the navobj.xml and renamed an older version e.g. navobj.xml.3 to navobj.xml and I got back my "smooth" tracks and routes... The problem is absolutely reproduceable. I do not remember, if the behaviour of the plugin was the same with a beta version of OpenCPN around August this year.
Can somebody check into this? Thanks a lot. If additional info is needed, please give me a post.
Best regards, Uwe

Weatherfax Plugin "clobbers" route and track data

I have never been aware of this problem. In fact I have many routes across the Atlantic and they have never been "clobbered" to my knowledge!
A step by step description of how this feat is achieved would be appreciated.

Re: WeatherFax...
... o.k., step by step.
1. Start OpenCPN and display NorthAtlantic on CM93 chart
2. Start Weatherfax plugin and select a downloaded fax file (from sailmail)
3. Calibrate the fax to overlay the North Atlantic
4. Display - everything is bright and beautiful so far ...
5. Close OpenCPN
6. Restart OpenCPN - and here you have the results.....
You see this documented in the attached screenshots. OK??
This is absolutely reproduceable.....
Does this help?
Best regards, Uwe

Re: WeatherFax...
it is easy to make undefined behavior from c++ by accident
The downloaded fax from sailmail, you opened as an image file correct?
If you don't calibrate the image the tracks aren't distorted?

Re: WeatherFax...
Sean, I don't understand why this would happen! In fact I am amazed. Why would the Weatherfax Wizard affect a route while transforming an image file? They are stored separately and with wizard would not have access to it.

Sean, I just opened the image and did NOT calibrate the image. It consequently didn't display, however, after restarting OpenCPN
- same behaviour.
In a way I am puzzled, I wrecked my brain, and here is the history:
I believe, I had used this feature previously and was absolutely impressed about the easy and logical calibration mechanism and think there was no distortion. The first time I saw it was, after I wanted to calibrate a cylindrical satellite image - I believe - but I didn't follow this up, as I went to the 3.3.2222 beta, which started very slowly due to some initial calculations. Pavel wanted to have the log and the navobj.xml as well and I renamed one of the older navobj.xmls to get my tracks back. So, maybe I carried a previous error through the navobj.xml file(s)???
So, I attach here the logfile and the two navobj.xml files, renamed to ".avi" to allow the file size to be uploaded - the plain navobj.xml is the one with the distorted tracks and the navobj.xml.2 is the one with the undistorted tracks. Does this help??
Thanks a lot, and - again - I think an excellent plugin, currently in the mediterranean and with internet connection, I use the passage weather maps, which are pre-configured and this is just great!!!
Hopefully I didnÄt doo anything wrong and cause a lot of work now....
Best regards, Uwe

Re: WeatherFax...
I am getting problems, to upload these files...... try one by one..... OK, realize, it doesn't work, the .xml files are too big and faking them as videos is being intercepted by the "double-check" of the forum software. What can we do, to transfer the data to you Sean?? If you pass me an e-mail address, we could use "Wetransfer", or do you have another method at hand?
Sorry for causing so many problems...
Best regards, Uwe
P.S.: At least the log could be attached...

Re: WeatherFax...
Uwe, other option is to try zipping the file and put .doc at the end. I have not ever tried that but it might work.
There that worked -- a weatherfax.gif file that was compressed to zip. Then added the ".doc" as long as it compresses to be low the maximum allowed by the forum rules for ".doc" files = 400 kb

Re: WeatherFax...
..... let's give it a try, thanks for the hint......
Here are the files for Post #638,639,640 .....
Best regards,
Uwe
it seems to have worked !!!!
so, be aware, the navobj.zip should unpack to navobj.xml and has the distorted tracks, while the navobj.xml.zip should unpack to navobj.xml.2 and has the "undistorted" tracks, ok?? maybe it is all self explaining, but I wanted to make sure..... (the logfile is in post 640)

Re: WeatherFax...
Uwe, good job. I have looked at the opencpn.log and you are using it does not look unusual to me, but Sean might be a better judge of that.

Which version of Weatherfax_pi and where did you download from?
I also looked at both of your navobj.xml files, it looks like the object that was changed might have been "tracks"? Is that correct?
I am using Opencpn 3.3.2302 and
"weatherfax_pi-1.3-ov3.2.2-h-win32.exe" (Version 1.3) that I compiled which is available on Opencpn Beta file thingie .
I could not get any anomaly to change my routings, but I see from your log file that what might have been changed are "Tracks" (Is this correct?) so I need to perhaps load you navobj file to use the same track. Never done this... will rename mine then load.... Well I had to rename both navobj.xml and navobj.xml.1 and copy your file to both of those files.
Of course for me, following your steps given earlier, everything worked perfectly. The Tracks were not disturbed! See pics please.
So how can we recreate this error? What are we doing differently?

Re: WeatherFax...
Perhaps you should download the most current version
weatherfax_pi-1.3-ov3.2.2-h-win32.exe from Opencpn File Thingie
