Are you sure the polar was accepted? How did you check that?

Re: Weather Routing Plug In - Does it Actually Work

Hello Sean d'Epagnier,

I try another to un-install WR using the un-installer ".exe" file. As said in a previous post, the folder "programdata/opencpn/plugins/weartherrouting is not delete.

AND in the opencpn.ini file, these lines are also not deleted :

[PlugIns/weather_routing_pi.dll]
bEnabled=1

[PlugIns/WeatherRouting/BoatDialog]
FilePath=C:\\Program Files (x86)\\OpenCPN\\plugins\\weather_routing_pi\\data\ \polars\\boat_A35.pol
Path=C:\\ProgramData\\opencpn\\plugins\\weather_ro uting
Orientation1=1

[PlugIns/WeatherRouting]
CursorColor=yellow
DestinationColor=magenta
RouteThickness=4
IsoChronThickness=2
AlternateRouteThickness=0
AlternatesForAll=0
MarkAtPolarChange=1
DisplayWindBarbs=0
DisplayCurrent=1
ConcurrentThreads=4
Column0=1
Column1=1
Column2=1
Column3=1
Column4=1
Column5=1
....
Column20=1
UseLocalTime=0
SettingsDialogX=527
SettingsDialogY=279
DialogX=-8
DialogY=111
DialogWidth=1176
DialogHeight=305
ConfigurationX=636
ConfigurationY=291

[PlugIns/WeatherRouting/BoatDialog]
FilePath=C:\\Program Files (x86)\\OpenCPN\\plugins\\weather_routing_pi\\data\ \polars\\boat_A35.pol
Path=C:\\ProgramData\\opencpn\\plugins\\weather_ro uting
Orientation1=1

And in these lines :
[PlugIns]
PluginOrder=NVC;S63;oeSENC;ObjSearch;ChartDownload er;GoogleEarth;VDR;Climatology;GRIB;WeatherRouting ;HiRes;OCPN Draw
you can see that the text "WeatherRouting;" is not deleted.

Best regards. Gilletarom.

Re: Weather Routing Plug In - Does it Actually Work

Yes it does work. I had trouble and got the "Polar: Failed" but after I made a
complete polar diagram it routes well except for a minor issue I will post about.

I had been collecting data while sailing but had gotten it far from complete.
What I then did was looked up a polar which had a similar shape. I found the
boat_cigale14 that to the shape looked much like my collected
polar diagram but it's speed values were much to high.

To "correct" this I wrote a small c-program where I am able to scale the matrix to my liking.
My polar covers 2 to 40 knots for every 5 degrees.

Re: Weather Routing Plug In - Does it Actually Work

hello Sean d'Epagnier,

Let me bore you again.

In the language file, there are several items that contain the word "Current" or "Currents". Most of the time, the translation into French must be "Courant" or "Courants", in the sense of "sea current"

But there are two items for which the translation seems delicate. These are the items "Current route" and "Current configuration".

It is possible to translate "Current route" to "route courante" or "Route actuelle". That is, "the route that currently exists". It seems strange to use the word "courant" in the sense of "sea current". Am I right ?

Similarly, it is possible to translate "Current configuration" to "Configuration courante" or "Configutarion actuelle". That is, "the configuration that currently exists". It seems to me impossible to use the word "Courant in the sense of" current sea. ". Same question. Am I right ?

I have another doubt. There is an item that is "Wind vs Current." What do you mean by?

Thank you in advance for your replies which will allow me to improve the tarduction in French in the Crowdin.

Gilletarom.

Re: Weather Routing Plug In - Does it Actually Work

Hello All,

Some of you said : "It work". Yes it work ... But it is strange that in some context, it do not work.

By example, I created boundary. I place 2 points, one on the south, one on the north of the area.

From the first to the second screen copy, I change only the place of the waypoint of the boudary which is on the north est.

And, in the firts case, WR run Ok.
In the second case, WR stoped with "Polars : failed".

But the polar that I choice is a very rich polar with many data from 0 Knot to 60 Knots of wind and from 0° to 180° of wind direction.

And we can see, using the arrows of wind that it is to create manually a route from the firts point to the end poind in each context.

So it is difficult to accept here this kind of error. But why not !

It is just necessary that we can explain this in the tutorials.

Best regards. Gilletarom.

Re: Weather Routing Plug In - Does it Actually Work

Here is something I do not understand.
I have set a start point at Las Palmas and an end point on Cap Verde.
Running the weather routing program generates a route across land.
I have clicked "Detect Land" but the program still wants me to hit the shore
on the east side of Gran Canaria.
Se picture.

Re: Weather Routing Plug In - Does it Actually Work

Are you using the hi-res GSHHG background map? The standard one looks like this:
(and the plug-in uses the GSHHG and no other vector maps - which would be a point for improvement).

Re: Weather Routing Plug In - Does it Actually Work

Hello Sean d'Epagnier,

Here joined, screen copy with the same test that in post #36, when WR failed to create a weather-route.
Just, I change the level of zoom. We can see that WR try to create a route, in the direction of the south. And so, not in the direction of the north.

This is strange. Why it failed ?

Here join the gpx file of the boundary and the grib file that I use (You can try à 18.00 H the 29/12).

Best regards.

Gilletarom.

It was said in the page dedicated to WR. But, now this page is not present in the "Book navigation tutorial".

But you can try. Normally, it's better and the weather route do not cross land if you install Gshhs. It is just necessary that you check the checkbox when you define the caractristic of the weather-route.

I did and it sure works. Now I don't need to strand my boat on the shores of Gran Canaria. Thank you Gilletarom.
