Re: Weather Routing

Forgot to mention that I'm on windows 10 latest version; latest version of OPENCPN and the 1.120f version of the plugin.

Re: Weather Routing

I just attempted to upgrade my primary navigation laptop from 1.10.1 to 1.12.0f.

Two major issues.
It causes OpenCPN to crash very often.

Second, I was getting polar failed:land on configurations that worked on 1.10.1. After reverting back to 1.10.1, they worked fine again.

Between the two issues, I was not able to get a single successful route to work in 1.12.0f, despite having 7 configurations that I know work in 1.10.1.

I have attached the files in a .zip file (renamed to doc). The configuration in question, that works in 1.10.1 is Pt Knox to Monterey.
Attached Files
File Type: doc weather_route_configfiles.doc (28.8 KB, 27 views)

Re: Weather Routing

Separate issues from my last post. Being able to specify time in Local time would be super helpful. Both in wxroute and in grib_pi.

The configuration filter causes OpenCPN to crash, at least in 1.10.1.

You can set time to local for weather routing in view->settings

for grib_pi it's in pluging's preferences.

There's a new parameter in route configuration advanced pane 'safety margin from land' ,could you double check it's set to zero?

No idea about your crashes

Thank you. I will check the new 'safety margin' setting, but it will need to wait until I get back from Monterey.

As I follow the race I do +/- once per day an update and route the same boats from their new position. This is quite a time consuming business to do, as I first have to delete all previous weather routing positions and than add back the new ones typing in their unchanged names and changed positions. Is it possible to add a feature that the weather positions of boats can be adjusted manually, like when the first time entered, instead of only deleted?
Please submit a Feature Request under Weather Routing in "Tracker" see https://opencpn.org upper right in the menu bar. You will first have to register. Thanks.

A lot of crashes happened when trying to route from Newport harbour around an exclusion zone. Moving the start position beyond the exclusion zone helped, including using 1 hour timesteps instead of 3 hr steps which resulted in an immediate crash. Also tried the batch calculation which is very handy, but it resulted in an immediate crash too.

The plugin should not crash, it may just fail when trying to route around an exclusion zone, for any number of reasons. It does not surprise me that 1 hour timesteps worked, but it should not crash with 3 hour timesteps, it should just fail. ..That the batch calcs also crash, suggest that there is some mis-configuration... Please keep an eye on these issues and report when you have a sequence or set of files that can repeat the problem.

Re: Weather Routing

There is a new beta release for Windows which merges 10 commits by Did-g. Go to the downloads page for Windows.

Re: Weather Routing

I've just upgraded from 1.10 to 1.12. I do like many of the new features.

For example, the sailing comfort is very helpful. Is there a way to customize the colors to fit personal comfort zones?

There seems to be a bug with the start date and time. Very often when changing any parameter on the configuration window the start date and time changes as well. This leads to recomputing a configuration after realizing it's not the date and time I want.

Not unless you modify the code, so yes you can do it.

Can you reproduce this? I don't understand. The start date and time should not change unless you manually change them, or hit the "grib time" or "current time" buttons. How exactly did you do this?

Thanks for the reply. If I had time and the inclination I might try. Guess I'll wait and see if it becomes an option in the future.

Yes, it happens all the time.

I've attached 3 screen shots showing the bug. The first shows the configuration settings and list of configurations.

In the second, I selected the second configuration.

And the third I change max swell from 5 to 6 and the time on the configuration list changes from 12:00 to 00:00.

If I continued changing any parameter the date and/or time will also change. I must insure the date/time is correct before computing the configuration.

Re: Weather Routing

Thanks for the report. This was a bug in dealing with local time. If you switch to UTC in the settings it should be ok.

I just fixed the code, so if you recompile the plugin it should be fixed for local time as well.

I'll give it a try. Could you please direct me to instructions & a compiler for Windows 10 pro.

You can try the automatic windows build.. maybe it works? I don't use windows ever.

Otherwise, the build instructions are on the wiki.
