Re: Weather Routing

I hope we can update the weather routing packages for 4.2

I am currently halfway through rewriting the boat configuration as to allow for sail plans to work much better, but also, to handle sea states and generate much more useful polars and hopefully be easier to use... Maybe I can push an update in a few weeks.

Re: Weather Routing

Sean, that all sounds great. I have uploaded to File Thingie a newly compiled version with the language files, and stand ready to do the same with your beta improvements in a few weeks. I hope you can get wxWidgets wxFormbuilder to behave so that the menus show the full values.

- More useful polars sounds like a huge improvement.
- Sail plans working better would be great.
- Sea States would be a big bonus.

It would be good if we could see the beginning and end of a routing as before.

Also we had some thoughts about how qtVlm has the ability to "play" and "pause" the routing (user controls) with the boat location showing, so that you can see how the routing works, which would be very useful in weather_routing_pi. Perhaps the cursor would show conditions at the paused boat too? -Just an idea, maybe it should be in tracker.

Thank you for a great and useful plugin!

Re: Weather Routing

hello Sean d'Epagnier, Hello JonGough,

In the latest version of the WR (Weather routing) di thingie (weather_routing_pi-1.82-ov4.2-win32I can not run this version of WR. No crash. No blocking.

Sometimes I get a route that looks like the route "DeadReckonning" OD plugin.

In short, compilations do not provide route worthy of the name.

Well, that said, I lack experience on the use of this plugin quite complicated.).

Question : There is a checkbox to let the plugin check for a "Boundary". But what kind of boundary could it be? On a boundary type, "no trespassing" or boundary least binding force ?

Best regards. Gilletarom.

Note :
I add, but it's a "feature" that as WR will not be able to use the netCDF file "Copernicus marine service", which gives the current files in near real time for European seas of Atlantic, the English Channel, the North sea and the Baltic sea, the software "competitors" of OpenCPN will have no trouble and do OpenCPN, software surpassed in France and in the northern countries Europe.

To address this, we need the Grib plugin is able to use these files and display them in addition to the usual file winds.

Re: Weather Routing

Gilletarom,
To start please do not get into the guts of this plugin. Just set a start point and an end point, have a fresh grib up, pick a New Configuration, set your start and end points from the start and end points you set up earlier with a right click - pick "weather_routing position waypoint"

Then just pick compute. It ran pretty simply for me just now.
From Florida to Midatlantic 6 hour intervals towards England.

Re: Weather Routing

Using the weather_routing_pi-1.82-ov4.2-win32 fromthe OpenCPN Beta File thingie solved my problem on my Windows 8.1 machine. After installing OpenCPN 4.2 and all the 4.2 plugins and updating the WR plugin to 1.82 I am getting a new problem on my Windows Vista PC. It errors out with a "Failed to start configuration: Boat file does not exist" error. I am using the same polar file as I did in my Win 8.1 test and using the Polar 1.1004 plugin.

Re: Weather Routing

TBaker; I had a similar problem with Windows XP. The boat.xlm did not want to load. I persevered with it and finally got it to load (I'm not sure how) and then it gave me a weather route.

Also to paraphrase a previous question, "There is a checkbox to let the plugin check for a "Boundary". But what kind of boundary could it be?"

Re: Weather Routing

Hello Sean d'Epagnier,

PC W 8.1 .

Same problem. Yesterday, I use boat.xml that I have since last year, deep in my computer.

And then, now, the plugin seems to run correctly.

Gilletarom.

Re: Weather Routing

hello sean of Epagnier,

Sorry to bother you for a display problem.

I have tried Weather Routing on a tablet, with a good quality screen (2500 X 1900). Here are 3 screenshots obtained from the latest version of WR downloaded from thingie today.

You can see that ergonomics and reading areas is very bad.

I have a PC with a screen of lower quality than the tablet, but better than a netbook. The display is better but there are still areas of digital information which are not visible. So difficult to enter or change information.

See the 3 last screenshots.

Best regards. Gilletarom.

The JonGough answer, plugin designer OPEN Draw, is:

"The weather plugin uses exclusion boundaries only. I cannot make any further changes to the routing plugin as Sean has asked me not to whilst he reworks the plugin".

Re: Weather Routing

Hello Sean d'Epagnier,

But despite the small hassle, I managed to run the plugin.
- Adaptation of my boat (Length overall everything flotation length, width, sail area)
- Establishment of a "Boundary" as a test.

Congratulations to Mr. Sean Epagnier

There is one thing that annoys me. Every time I make a new configuration, WR does not retain my favorite constraints. For example, he always puts on Climatology "Mostly." But I do not want it. I am that it's still on "Disable". And I have only one boat .... So the characteristics of the boat should be defined once and for all in the General preferences.

So it would be nice if there were general preferences which have looks which must remain stable for a compilation to another, such as the characteristics of the boat, for example. Or verification of boundary, which is important. (Otherwise, the boat passes too often near the coast and this is not good).

In short, all this would improve the ergonomics of the operation of the plugin.

Best regards. Gilletarom.

Re: Weather Routing

I do not know if Sean has left on a voyage yet. I have put the wxformbuilder issue in tracker and github. If I understood wxformbuildet better I might be able to solve this. However it would be nice if we could adjust the screens and have that config remembered.

hello Sean d'Epagnier,

Another test. Considering many boundary. And we see that the route passes inside a boundary.

Re: Weather Routing

hello Sean D'Epagnier,

Another test with a boundary.

This time, it was disabled. But the route bypasses.

In the WatchDog plugin now, the boundary that are disabled can no longer caused alarm.

I think it would be nice if it was the same in WR. Ie if the disabled boundary were not considered in the search for the route.

However, the boundary active and invisible, is still able to trigger an alert in the WD. No doubt the same choice it must be done here.
That is to say that if he exisite a boundary, invisible but active, then route will have bypassed this area.

This would bring more coherence in the operation of OpenCPN and its plugins.

Re: Weather Routing

hello Sean d'Epagnier,

Another test.

This time, in "Settings" checkbox "Wind arrows" was checked. So during the search route, WR successively displays the "arrow barbs" showing the wind direction. In addition the display is changing gradually as the time periods used are changing.

It's original and it's a good idea.

BUT:
In the background, in no time, "arrows feathers", the grib plugin, have not correlated to those that have been posted by WR.

STRANGE!

I did "play" animation plugin Grib. This seems consistent with the display of "arrows barbs" WR. But still it remains strange.

Moreover, it would be possible not to display the window complement GRIB? And this while allowing, of course, operate in the background.

Best regards. Gilletarom.

Re: Weather Routing

Hello Sean d'Epagnier,

Sorry to bother you again and again, with so many posts. Another idea. This is not a bug. It is a "Feature".

There is a waypoint at the start and a waypoint on arrival.

Unless I am mistaken, it is not possible to pass the route by a compulsory passage point. It would be nice if it was possible.

And all the more so that all competitors software have that option in their operation.

Best regards. Gilletarom.
