Re: Weather Routing

New Update for Windows:
https://ci.appveyor.com/project/sean...0.37/artifacts

This Continuous Integration is a huge time saver. Thank you.

It seems to work very nicely, but does take more time to calc each isochrone for some reason.

Perhaps we should be testing Gilletarom's examples across the Solent to see if they complete better!

Stelian, the menu is clear to me. Thank you. I need to add this to the manual.

Thank you all for your valuable inputs and improvements! Despite the extra line the shrink menu feature is good. In time it will get better and the technique can be used with other PI menus too.

Wish wxWidgets had a way of putting a shrink menu button in the title or horizontal menu.

I had exactly the same feeling.

If I disable the boundary test (or remove the boundaries I had imported from one of Gilletarom's posts), it's much faster.

But maybe this doesn't explain all, maybe some recent change introduced a regression here. More tests are needed I guess.

Can you verify that an older version was faster for the exact same configuration and calculation?

If so, which older version, and how much slower is it now?

Re: Weather Routing

I tried going back a few commits and finally I don't think there is a regression somewhere.

The problem lies in dealing with complex boundaries (such as the one posted by Gilletarom a few posts ago).

Calculating a route of about 50 miles (in 15 minutes steps, grib wind + current) takes 5 seconds without boundaries, 65 (!!!) seconds with boundaries.

Re: Weather Routing

Cowes to Strasbourg est with 10 min intervals, using Gille' grib file and boundaries (see screenshot please for more settings. Start 1/1/2018 12:00
Most current WxRte Plugin Start 3:27 Finished 3:33 = 6min.

Strasbourg est to Cowes with 30 min intervals, gille's grib and boundaries,'
Most Current WxRte Plugin Start 3:37 End 3.38

Boy what a help CI is! Regression Testing becomes easy!

Using Merge pull request #143 from nohal/master from Feb 16
go to https://ci.appveyor.com/project/sean...0.15/artifacts and install this file and test it.

Cowes to Strasbourg est start 3:48 end 3:55 = 7 min

So it is a little better!

Re: Weather Routing

Consistent to my findings, I guess the grib cache helps a bit, and we are a bit faster than before.

Still, I find the boundary-induced slowness very big. Not a new problem, but still. One can also argue that we're not supposed to have so much boundaries...

Re: Weather Routing

I agree, Gilletarom really trialed boundaries in a way we've not seen before. Land detection with Gshhg is very fast, then just add a few special boundaries, I think.

It is a tribute to ocpndraw that so many boundaries will work.

Re: Weather Routing

Stelian, question: Should I be upgrading to VS2017 and wxwidgets 311 now? Everyone seems to have done it. What is the disadvantage if I do it?

Re: Weather Routing

So no regression correct?

I have yet to attempt optimizing boundaries.

Don't know. This is Windows specific, and I don't (normally) do Windows...
