Re: Weather Routing

I tested the version 1.2 under Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and the routing seems to work only with climatology and never looks at grib even it is there and fresh. The only thing it tooks from the grib was the grib time.

Re: Weather Routing

Bompa, seems to work in Windows fine. See routing to England.
You may not have some settings right, or maybe it really does not work...?

Try making a new route start and destination, etc.
Try just using a Grib with new settings.
Try just using Climatolgy with same settings.
Then combine them.

Great yoou are using the plugin. Let us know how it goes Please.

Re: Weather Routing

I did a new route start and destination, etc.
I tried with a Grib (with a lots a data or even with only wind and wves) and could not compute the route
Tried just using Climatology with same settings. Worked without problem.
Tried with grib and Climatology together and it did the work only based on Climatology.

The grib plugin is the original one. Should I use another one as a saw somewhere on the net?

Re: Weather Routing

if you disable climatology data does it work?

The most likely problem is that where you are trying to compute a route doesn't have grib data at that time or location.

Re: Weather Routing

Without climatology it is not working (compute does nothing).

The grib I used was from today and covered the complete area of the navigation I planned to test with the current date. Weather routing sees the grib because if I change the grib time within the grib plugins it takes the correct time. It is simply not computing with the grib datas.

... or I am missing something

Re: Weather Routing

Because it is calculating a route using climatology we know the boat data and settings are working. Because you have set new waypoints and they work with climatology we know that part is ok. So now as sean says it is likely that you need to fix or adjust some setting in the Config screen like time. Look at plugin instructions and the screen shot above for hints about settings. Let us know what you think made it calc with grib! Ps grib has to cover entire path or it fails but will show a partial route. Try regen angles too. Don't mess with the detailed settings yet. Make a simple short route fully covered by grib file. Make sure grib file covers the time set. You're just about there...very close to success.

Maybe the problem is the grib is using universal time?

If you cannot get it working, find the WeatherRoutingConfiguration.xml or save the configuration to a file and post that with the grib file.

Re: Weather Routing

Bompa, my apologies. You are right! Weather_routing does NOT work with Gribs. I have just experienced this. I should have tested Gribs separately before. I am sorry.
See attached failure.

Sean it was introduced recently, probably when Wx_route started working with Grib files again.

Re: Weather Routing

To test I simply created a route against the wind (grib) and computed it. My boat does not allow me to do it, not even my polar. It was fast and easy.

Hope you will solve the problem fast, the plugin is great

Re: Weather Routing

I tried with a grib and it worked.

You said against the wind? What about with the wind? Does grib fail in all cases?

Sometimes the boat polar does not allow the boat to sail against the wind, or not at certain wind speeds. For example, routing through storms when the boat cannot make progress against 40 knots of wind, the routing looks very interesting as it sails around the storm when it passes.

If you can post your grib file and configuration xml I'm sure I can find the problem.

Re: Weather Routing

Sean what is the current version? Is it on your github? I will git again and try.

Re: Weather Routing

No it never worked with the gribs.

When saying against the wind I mean :
Climatology gives a East wind, the grib a south wind. I did a routing direction south. If the route was straight to the south it means it took climatology, otherwise it will be the grib. I get always straight to the south. My boat and even my polar is not able to go against the wind from 0 to 30 degrees, so the conclusion was that the grib calculation was not done.

I am actually away from the boat until friday. I will send you the files as soon as possible.

Re: Weather Routing

The display is in a different color for grib vs climatology:

If the isochrons are blue-green it is grib, red-orange is climatology.

Keep in mind, if the polar is optimized for tacking, it will sail straight south in your case, and assume you know to tack.

I did a remote connection (teamviewer) with bompa via a tablet and did a printscreen. You can see the wind barb of the grib and the route computed. I also downloaded the grib file and the boat.xml but don't know how to publish it here
