Re: Weather Routing

Hey,

I have updated to OpenCPN v. 3.3.424, and are using the latest weather routing(v06) DLL and Watchman(v02) DLL, but neither of them show up in the "plugin activating window". What have I done wrong?

Re: Weather Routing

Taarnskov,
1. Do you have the files under Crashrpt, in your opencpn.exe directory?
2. Have you created the weather_routing/data directories and put WeatherRoutingInformation.html in the data sub-directory?

Re: Weather Routing

Taarnskov,
I checked this problem in my setup and found you were right. I have updated the Opencpn3.3.424.exe in File Thingie and updated both Watchman and Weather_routing plugins. Please download these and try again. Thanks. -Can't seem to get dashboard working, still working on that.

Re: Weather Routing

Taarnskov, I seem to have made a space when renaming weather_routing plugin, which is one of the reasons it did not show in settings. Please re download if it is not working or delete the space.

Re: Weather Routing

It is working now. I have installed both the weather routing and the watchman. The work very well.

Re: Weather Routing

Great Lars. Would you try Climatology? but don't turn on Isobars for any data type or it willl freeze Opencpn. Also make sure you uncompress the CL-Data and put it in the correct directory. You will be able to use monthly climatology data to plan routes in weather_routing by checking the climatology box.

Re: Weather Routing

Please refer to this Post for more information and results for the latest Git of Wx-Rte and Climatology used with Grib plugins. Some very good routing features and results now. Will try to compile and upload Windows version + plus new data set, if it works.

Re: Weather Routing

Here is a little exercise using Weather Routing and Climatology plugins.

Each track is a route from Cabo San Lucas to San Diego for a different month.

May, June, July, Aug yield the shore route.
Feb, Mar, Apr, Sep, Oct yield the Clipper route inside Guadalupe Island.
Nov, Dec, Jan yield the Clipper route outside Guadalupe Island.

Amazing stuff Sean.

Re: Weather Routing

Weather-Routing with Climatology by Month - in Windows 7 !!!

!. Trouble getting to Bay of Fundy - Issac the little guy in the computer does an excellent job at a small scale, but he needs the big picture and sometimes that is difficult. He does not want to spend time on needless calculations, because his master gets ticked about that. But sometimes Issac is unable to get places and that creates some questions about Issac's ability to do the job given to him. Issac needs to know that it is alright to expand the land outline if it will complete the route successfully. He thinks that the summary land outline is good enough, but it reallly isn't.

2. Move the targe to Campabello Island - Issac still has problems here, he just does not like upper Maine, it gets too foggy and he wants to go to the Northwest passage. Which I would like to do sometime, but not now.

3. Issac will take me to St. Lawrence seaway, because he made a decision some time ago, that he would not try going up the Bay of Funday, although for a little while when he was working hard on isochrones in that area, the route looked like it was headed right up the Bay of Fundy. Issac was very smart then, and just canceled any calcs in Bay of Fundy, by drawing a line across demarking land. - Is there a way to loosen up the sensitivity, or time spent determining land extents in a certain area? Or should Issac be asking a bigger question, since he seems to update land extents mapping for just the the current isobar? The question is this, if I release or redo one or two isobar land calcs back, and recalculate with greater sensitivity, will that get me closer to the destination?

4. Newport-Nassau - The next one is cool, showing how big a boost currents can give us. The angle cutoff was set at 70 degrees I believe, note the straight line when the isochrones stop. However this line is broken and the isobars continue in a breakout exactly where the Gulf Stream currents occur, pushing the cutoff line well out of alignment. If the boat chooses to hang a left at that point it would really make some time. Why is this happening? Is this a bug or feature? It is pretty clear that the 70 degree cutoff applies to wind, but not currents, so we can see the added boost of current graphically. I think it is kind of cool, and really don't mind it, actually I like it. It does cost some computer time however. -Is there a way to toggle the current and wind components and the effect of each on course? (may be too expensive computationally to do in real time).

5. Fall (Sept, Oct) Newport to Nassau -Red and Spring (Ap,May,June) Nassau to Newport (Blue) following the Gulf Stream. The routing menu shows the days and hours for each month and direction. The polars are calculated within the plugin by setting boat parameters. I used Bristol 32 parameters (lwl=24, lol=32, 6 tons, etc)

6. There are two menus Sean has provided "Batch" and "Route" which I have not been able to get to work in Windows. I may try in Linux later, but these are clues re what is next in the plugin.
