Viewing grb2 files

Even after sending an email to Nomads asking why August 3-8, 2015 GRIB files are missing and them replying they would look into it, the days are still missing.
ftp://nomads.ncdc.noaa.gov/GFS/Grid3/201508/
Is there another country that supplies Historical GRIB files for the North Atlantic? Maybe Canada or England?
This is really putting a damper in my analysis of large swells at that time.
I found grb2 files for these days but cannot view them in OpenCPN.
Thank you for a great group. I want to be as helpful as the group.

What OS are you using?

If it's Linux or OS-X there's command line tools for converting grib2 to grib1 and they should work for wave data. eg:
grib_set -s editionNumber=1 wave.grb2 wave.grb

On Window, I'm not sure, they should exist but may be harder to find.

Otherwise if it's a one off, put a link with your data and I will convert them.

I'm modifying OpenCPN for reading grib2, it's working but it's not yet 'out of the box'.

Re: Viewing grb2 files

Did-g - Grib_pi reading grib1 and grib2 would be very nice!!!

So would better recent large swell wave data for n.atlantic!
Is there any chance you could collect this data somewhere so Sean could include it in the Climatology plugin?
This is exactly the kind of data it tries to present.

Wow, Did-g, thank you for this. I am using Windows 8. Will look for converter. I have 5 files to convert. If I cannot find a converter in the next week or so, I will send them to you. You are so kind to take time out of what I am sure is a busy schedule of volunteering on OpenCPN. I love this group.

Thank you fogmachine. As I delve deeper into this, I see a huge ground swell in studying the planet.

NOAA's Weather and Climate Toolkit
NOAA's Weather and Climate Toolkit (Viewer and Data Exporter)
This is one incredible toolkit.
Reads grb2 files and probably my mind.
Thank you for all the support.
