Unwanted marks circles

Not sure its a new subject, but found nothing with search function.

O5 : when updating a mark properties (e. g. to move it) unwanted circles are automaticaly added to that mark, usually 2 or 4 !

Any idea ?

Re: Unwanted marks circles

Fix the problem by changing the settings in:
Options->Ships->Routes/Points->Waypoint range rings
This setting controls new waypoints.
This is all documented in the 5.0 release notes https://opencpn.org/OpenCPN/about/ver500.html
You have probably changed this setting by mistake after installing version 5.0.

Re: Unwanted marks circles

I was a bit quick (not enough explicit) in my post :
This setting is, and has always been, set to "none" !

The rings display occurs randomly, when updating mark properties, with a frequency of ~5% ! At each occurrence, I have checked this setting, which was set to "none".

Not an user miss use definitely, rather looks as a bug, that's why I have posted this ! !

Re: Unwanted marks circles

Didier these artifacts may be created by the graphics system, loose connections, adapter boards not seated, power variations, the monitor, etc, Thank you for reporting. Can you reproduce these artifacts reliably? If so, can you please post the following:
1. Opencpn version, OS version, and Hardware
2. Graphics card and drivers used.
3. Whether you are using opengl or not? -Does it make a difference?
4. Screenshots of the artifacts.
5. If you can, a more precise description of how you can create the artifacts reliably.
6. opencpn.ini and opencpn.log files.
7. Maybe your navobj.xml file

Please see more detailed instructions here.

Do the rings disappear when you pan or zoom or refresh the screen?
Do you think they are actual entities that are stored in Navobj.xml file?
I think start with a screenshot and answer the questions best you can.

[QUOTE=rgleason;2902589]Didier these artifacts may be created by the graphics system, loose connections, adapter boards not seated, power variations, the monitor, etc, Thank you for reporting. No, when it occurs, I have 2 or 4 circles centered on the mark. When editing the marks properties (again), in the extended tab, I find a value in Range rings "number", corresponding to what I see (2 or 4), but didn't ask for ! It seems a value comes I don't know how, to corrupt this field "number" .

Can you reproduce these artifacts reliably? No, it happens randomly
If so, can you please post the following:
1. Opencpn version, OS version, and Hardware

OpenCPN 5.0, Openplotter 1.2.0 RPi 3 model B plus

2. Graphics card and drivers used.
No Open GL

3. Whether you are using opengl or not? No -Does it make a difference?
4. Screenshots of the artifacts.

5. If you can, a more precise description of how you can create the artifacts reliably. No idea

6. opencpn.ini and opencpn.log files.
7. Maybe your navobj.xml file
Answer to 4, 6, & 7 and following in a next reply

Rick, absolutely none of that is correct. What the OP describes is not a hardware issue.

Where does these marks originate from? Have you imported them or are they totally native to OpenCPN?

If you look back at those wpt:s where the rings "pops up"....do they have anything in common that sets them apart from other mark/waypoints?
Imported from somewhere, created with a certain version of O , using a different icon etc etc ?

It may help if we can have a look at the relevant instances of the opencpn.ini, opencpn.log and navobj.xml files.

Easiest is to replace every number with a value not 0
like
<opencpn:waypoint_range_rings visible="false" number="3"

in navobj.xml
and navobj.xml.changes

with
<opencpn:waypoint_range_rings visible="false" number="0"

And ask Jon Gough what he intended.

Currently if the number attribute is not 0 rings are always displayed after editing a waypoint.

Re: Unwanted marks circles

OK, I mentioned that strange phenomenon, more as a curiosity than an annoying occurrence, it is not so disturbing.
I will try to apply the recepe, and return to this thread in case of difficulties !

I'm also interested in knowing what was intended !

Thanks !
