Ubuntu Software Center

P { margin-bottom: 0.21cm; } Hi all,
I just tried to add the OpenCPN PPA into my Ubuntu system using the system GUI via the Ubuntu Software Center, followed the steps advised, inserted ppapencpn/opencpn in the APT line, tried to install OpenCPN in the usual way, and received this error message "E:Type 'b-src' is not known on line 2 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/opencpn-opencpn-precise.list" ......and now the Ubuntu Software Center will not open....

Can anyone explain why this has happened and how it can be fixed?

Cheers in advance

Re: Ubuntu Software Center

Probably a tying error. To fix:
In filemanager (as root) delete the etc/apt/sources.list.d/opencpn-opencpn-precise.list
or
Open terminal and type: sudo rm etc/apt/sources.list.d/opencpn-opencpn-precise.list

Now the Softwaremanager should open again and you can try again.

Re: Ubuntu Software Center

Thanks very much rooiedirk, i appreciate your help. Cheers. I ended up uninstalling, reinstalling and updating the software centre via terminal, now will try to install opencpn the same way...but i am not confident and will have to just revert to windows for now. ReefRaff.

Re: Ubuntu Software Center

Cars are dangerous and difficult - I keep using my horse :-)

The easy way:
Open a Terminal and enter the following commands and press enter after each command :
Code:
sudo apt-get install software-properties-common
Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:opencpn/opencpn
Code:
sudo apt-get update
Code:
sudo apt-get install opencpn
And then you can start opencpn. type opencpn in the menu search bar and press enter to start.
