With the latest beta release, 2.1.0 build 530, the described problem belongs to the past. Ubuntu 10.4, with the latest gpsd now works "out of the box".

I have Ubuntu 10.04 (re-install it yesterday) and I try with GPSD 2.92.4. It was not working.
I have installed the last GPSD 2.94.2 (and dependances) and ... it is not working. Don't know what to do.

jp....

1. Does xgps work?
2. Does opencpn show any message dialogs on startup related to gpsd?

Thanks
Dave

Dave,

xgps is working, but I also try nmeamon and I don't get anything when it is set to gpsd.
There is no message about gpsd when I launch Opencpn.

Use NMEA Data Source => "Network LIBGPS" not NETWORK GPSD.

jp...

It sounds like your application was not built with libgps support....

Did you build from source on Ubuntu? Do you have the libgps-dev package installed? (I may not have that package name exactly right...Thomas?)

Can we see the output from cmake, please...
Should have a line like:
Code:
            Building with libgps includes

Dave, Cagney,

I had not libgps-dev. I install it, uninstall Opencpn and install it again with cmake. I had the line :
Code:
Building with libgps includes
And now I have : "Network LIBGPS"

All is working fine. Thanks to you.

Presently you must use this deb package: http://www.opencpn.org/sites/default...-2.1.0b530.deb
if you can't compile yourself. On other versions of OpenCPN the gps will probably not work. See instructions in posts above.
Good Luck!
Thomas

PS I have updated the relevant instructions on the opencpn.org site.

Kermit,

I have had the same problem. I just find that :

Delete .opencpn in your home, uninstall Opencpn and install it again. It has been working for me all the times.

I think this is generally unnecessary.
Code:
$ rm ~/.opencpn/opencpn.conf
and a restart should be sufficient in most cases. The reason being that the config file is corrupt. I think that we have yet to see an corrupted linux installation.....or?
.opencpn contains all your S57 SENC files, and it's a waste to just throw all those in the "bit bucket".

If this still doesn't get you going ....what output do you get when starting opencpn from the command line, like this?
Code:
$opencpn

Cagney:

Quite right you are. Save those SENCs.

Kermit:
I would like to see a copy of ~/.opencpn/opencpn.conf that produces a no-start condition.

Thanks
Dave
