Translation for Plugins

A problem was suggested recently in the i18n thread:

How will translations be handled for plugins?

Should separate language files be created with a different gettext domain & all such things required for separation?

Or should token strings be included in the main translation files?

The first solution is the most powerfull because plugins can be upgraded separately so can be the translation without requiring to rebuild all language files for the whole OpenCPN gettext domain. This will require (slightly) more work.

The second will make translations easier. But plugins may also come for third party, external source and so will no be "localisable" without importing token strings in the main language files (then plugins are no more really third party...)

I guess the first solution is the right way to go.

Please suggest & comment. Thanks

SethDart,
second that - if we want to allow third party plug-ins, it's probably the only way
