Tracks sometimes not displayed in OpenCPN

Since I have recently moved from an old laptop (Lenovo T430s, Win7) to a new one (Lenovo T480, Win10), I have problems with displaying the tracks in OpenCPN. Some tracks (not all!) are only shown depending upon the scaling factor: moving to an higher scaling factor (larger area) some tracks are not displayed anymore. These tracks are displayed again when moving to a lower scale (more detailed charts). Other tracks remain visible, not depending upon the scaling factor. All tracks are checked for visibility.
In addition, the same (disappearing) tracks are sometimes shown on the screen with a certain scaling factor, but disappear when just moving the cursor over that track. The problem is not depending upon the OpenCPN version: the same was seen for OpenCPN 4.8.4, 4.8.8 as well as 5.0.
It looks related to OpenGL: when the selection box for OpenGL is unchecked (Options à Display Optionsà Advancedà Use Accelerated Grapics), all tracks remain visible always. Checking OpenGL again will result in the same problem.
My T480 is equipped with an Intel UHD Graphics 620 as well as an NVIDIA GeForce MX150 graphical card, supported by (I think) the latest drivers. Display resolution is 2560 x 1440.
Any similar experiences? And any proposed solutions while still making use of OpenGL?
Thanks, Joost Geise, The Netherlands

Re: Tracks sometimes not displayed in OpenCPN

Geise,
We need your log file and ini files, and screenshots of these anomlies.
Your description is detailed and much appreciated.
How to request support and report problems if I cannot find the answer in resources listed above?

Also we need a copy of your most recent navobj.xml file, uploaded to here using an .doc or .pdf extension.

Many of my Navobjects and waypoints disappeared. Why?

What causes spurious waypoints which must be deleted?

Thanks.

Geise, have you seen this thread?

Dave has a version 5, modified to overcome the known OpenGL problems with your Intel graphics drivers.

Are you sure it is that graphics card?

Re: Tracks sometimes not displayed in OpenCPN

Thanks for your prompt reply. Attached the following files:
1. Log file.
2. Ini file.
3. Most recent navobj.xml file. Sent as a full file ( 5.8 MB), as I was not able to copy it into a doc file. If too large, please advice how to handle.
4. Two screenshots, one with OpenGL unchecked, the other one with OpenGL checked, copied into one word document.
Maybe relevant: although some tracks are not diplayed while usingCopy of INI files, OpenCPN, May 22, 2019, Joost Geise.pdf

Copy of Log file OpenCPN, May 22, 2019, Joost Geise.pdf

Screen files OpenGL problems Joost Geise.pdf OpenGL, the track details can be found on the screen when moving the cursor over the supposed track position. So it looks like a displaying issue.

Please note: this is a new OpenCPN installation, not yet tested on board, so not yet connected to a GPS or AIS unit. Will be tested on board within two weeks.
P.S. uploading the navobj.xml failed! Please advice.

Full details installed graphics card are (Speccy details):
** Intel UHD Graphics 620, Model UHD Graphics 620; Driver version 24.20.100.6223
** NVIDIA GeForce MX150; Driver version 24.21.13.9836, BIOS Version 86.08.28.00.59.
Not sure, of course, if it is related to the graphics cards. But unselecting OpenGL solves the problem.
Thanks, Joost Geise

Hoolie, Thanks. I will look at it, and will report. However, I have the same problem in OpenCPN 4.8.4 as well as 4.8.8. So not specifically related to V 5.0.

Re: Tracks sometimes not displayed in OpenCPN

Good Job!

First, let's try this.

I have an Old Dell Laptop XPS 15 with both Intel HD Graphics 3000 and Nvidia Geforce 540m. I can use the Nvidia Physics Display program to set certain programs to use the NVIDIA Card. Can you do that? OpenCPN is display intensive and uses all the OpenGL features that are available, but if a card has faulty drivers for some aspect it gets problematical. NVIDIA is much better and faster with OpenGL generally. I you can get OpenCPN to use the NVIDIA card I think you will be very happy.

NVIDIA GeForce MX150;

PS: Let us know how it goes, and the details, so others benifit. Thanks.

AFAIK Dave has only modified v5 as modding previous versions would seem to be a waste of his valuable time ... ...

Re: Tracks sometimes not displayed in OpenCPN

Giese...

To upload the navobj.xml....

1. Save a copy of navobj.xml, somewhere safe.
2. Run OCPN.
3. Delete all routes, and waypoints.
4. Delete all tracks, EXCEPT the one or two tracks shown in the screenshots you attached earlier.
5. Confirm that the problem still exists.
6. Exit OCPN
7. Post that resulting navobj.xml. Should be very small....
8. Revert to your saved copy of navobj.xml, if you like.

Thanks
Dave
