Track properties

I was wondering if it is possible to log boat speed through the water instead of speed over the ground ....associated with the track. Right now, the speed is not believable when set to high tracking precision...ie the speed will show as 13k and then 2k and then 10k and then 3k etc etc.
Thanks for any help!

Re: Track properties

GWB...
Speed is not logged at all. What you see is a calculated value from the distance of the two trackpoints, not what you had coming from the NMEA stream at that time (if we logged it, which we don't, it's a question what would be the right value - SOG, STW, at the moment of recording a point, average since the last point...).

Re: Track properties

Thanks for that Pavel. My thought was to have a checkbox for the appropriate selection, similar to the port output options...ie STW (or whatever) would be logged when the track was recorded.
Currently the speed portion of the track properties is pretty much meaningless.

Re: Track properties

GWB...
Depends on the use case - In my case, knowing my speed over a leg of say 1 cable is typically meaningless - where it counts are distances of miles and timespans of hours and days and there the current algo is doing it's job just fine. If I need something more precise in a small area, I can always record the whole NMEA stream and have all the readings of all the sensors available...
