The Weather Routing stops before reaching the destination

Dear all,
my question is the following:

On OPEN CPN happens always that the weather routing ends before reaching the destination.
is this due to a setup erroro?

Thansk a lot in advance.

Re: The Weather Routing stops before reaching the destination

probably because your grib data runs out before the destination

Hello, thanks for the answer.. Unfortunately I think that this is not the cause.. The grib file includes the destination...

Re: The Weather Routing stops before reaching the destination

The grib file doesn't cover enough *time* to get to the destination by the end of the forecast?

Some WX routing programs allow you to run past the end of the grib forecast by just freezing the grib data at the last available time. Does OCPN have this option? I can't find it.

Thanks in advance... unfortunately the grib file covers the region in space and time... moreover now I installed the last version of OPNE CPN.. and now the routing does not start showing no errors about...
I select the grib file, COnfigure the routing with start and destination, polar etc.. Compute and nothing happens...

Thanks..

Yes it has this option as "Last valid if data deficient"

What is reported in the "State" column of the weather routing list for the configuration you tried to compute?

You might need to post the grib file you used, the WeatherRoutingConfiguration.xml, Boat.xml and possibly the polar if you modified it. With this, anyone should be able to reproduce your results, and can find the problem.

Thank you all,
in attachment the WeatherRoutingConfiguration, Boat ad GRIB files. The file WR shows how the Routing stops before reaching the destination..

I don't know if you'll see my files, on the upload steps some files are known as invalid file.. except the jpg..

Is there a way on OpernCPN to avoid Land or to create a no go zone?

Thanks a lot.

I experienced the same a few versions back. A reinstall of latest version of OpenCPN and the plugins solved the problem

Thanks a lot.. I think that the problem is focused away because a Reinstalled software and plug-ins several times.. But no chance on the results.. Sometimes the routing is correct but sometimes it stops before...

We don't see the files, except the jpg one.

Attaching files to this forum is a bit twisted: you need to rename the xml files to .doc (or another "supported" format) before attaching it.

As for the "no go" zone you can create boundaries with the draw plugin, and remember to tick the "use boundaries" in WR dialog.

Hi,
It looks like there's not much wind,

With a recent WR version and an old polar file it could be a missing column for 0 wind speed in it.

Joseph, it looks like these are not the correct files, WeatherRoutingConfiguration.xml should contain some information about your route (starting from Italy as I see in your screenshot), but the file you attached contains the default routes (canaries, Lizard, Provincetown etc)

Re: The Weather Routing stops before reaching the destination

Joseph,

Take a close look at the polar you used. It is defined for wind speeds from 6 to 20 knots, and then linearly down to zero up to 60 knots. This is not the best polar and isn't very realistic either.

If you experience conditions less than 6 knots or more than 60, the routing will not propagate, and in your case the wind is less than 6 knots where the routing stops.

I recommend you use a different polar and verify it has some boat speed at slight winds, many do.

Hi boat_alexandra, thanks a lot,
I used also different polar included on OPEN CPN but the behaviour is the same...

Maybe can be useful the procedure that I follow for Weather routing..

In order to start the routing:
-Start the grib plugin and load the grib file
-Start the Weather Routing plugIn
-right click on the map in order to setup the starting point ( right click -weather routing position)
-right click on the map in order to setup the endind point ( right click -weather routing position)
-Configuration-New on the Weather Routing panel
-Setting the starting and destination point, polar
-Compute

is it correct?

Thansk in advance
