I was having some problems too. Deinstalled, reinstalled from your rebuild source. Now working fine on Ubuntu 12.04 with USB DeLorme gps

great, glad to hear it. still curious as to what was the root cause of the problems though..

also, are you using gpsd (libgps,..) or direct connection to /dev/ttyUSB0 ?

fwiw there is nothing very special in my ones, just a 100% fresh install of Ubu onto a VM, then built using the DebianGIS build rules that Anton and myself have been working on + minimal install of a build system (gcc etc) to allow that to happen. IIUC the "official" o'cpn ones that Thomas & Dave prepare are produced by the version of cmake native to the particular release of ubuntu, and AFAIK that method has worked fine until now.

I first installed the openCpn version which ubuntu's synaptic app found on its search. It installed without an issue, but i had a very hard time getting the GPS puck identified. The little app xgps worked without a hitch.

I tried a number of things suggested on blogs, and eventually it worked. I used a DeLorme GPS puck which works OK in XP.

OpenCPN gave me a consistent error when trying to run libgps. "unable to load libgps"

The only connection that would work for me was ttyUSB0

I'm new to Linux, so I couldn't tell what was weird and what is normal configuration issues.
