South China Sea charts

Hi Guys,

Anybody has some copies of the South China Sea charts for OpenCPN? They are not available for download anymore...

I'm looking for:

a) EA200001
b) EA200002
c) EA200003
d) EA200004

Many thanks!

Re: South China Sea charts

BTW, there does not actually seem to be any problem with these charts - they still are on the server in the same place they always were, so the chart downloader plugin integrated in OpenCPN will get them just fine...
But as we know, there are no more updates issued for them and they are "suspended", whatever that means, since February 2017

And one note - due to the very unfortunate way these charts were constructed, they have disastrous impact on chart quilting performance - use them in single chart mode.

Re: South China Sea charts

Eddie,

I downloaded the charts as well but can't get them to load in Open CPN.
I have played around a lot but can't seem to get it.
Any idea what I am missing?

Thank you.

Hi Baris, make sure you unzip the files. Place the folders in your chart directory. Go to "Charts" in the preferences. "Scan charts and update database"

Hope this helps!

Re: South China Sea charts

Hi Eddie,
I did that a few times but will try again.
Do you mind to share with me a screenshot from a specific location (ie. Hong Kong) so that I can see how it looks like on yours?
Best wishes.

Send me a private message with your email address. Attaching images here is hard.

Re: South China Sea charts

I suggest you use dropbox or some other service.

Also the file sizes allowed for various filetype is at the bottom of the attach window.

We often "zip" a file or files and then add ".doc" or ".pdf" and then attach them.

The SENC charts from HK Hydro office only go as far as 103 degrees E. They do not cover Thialand or Melaka.

There were digital copies of the Thialand charts knocking about. Ask around locally.

Re: South China Sea charts

For the Malacca strait there are S-63 charts.
Look here:
ArcGIS Web Application

How valid those are for your particular purpose, you will need to try..
