given that error, the other possibility has todo with the browser.Drag the jpeg into it and see if it opens it.
I dragged and it opened. But error persists and other tempt.gpx files do not work too.

Re: Software to Introduce Hypertext Links in OpenCPN Waypoints

So,when you drag the picture into it,does the browser address bar have

"file://C:\Program Files\OpenCPN\Limanlar\Cyclades\Kea(Korissia).jpg"

in it?...The same path as your gpx has? If it's not exactly the same, copy the path from the address bar into the gpx.It really should work then!

ADDED:maybe there aren't enough"/"as in "file:///etc....."

and the link at browser:

file:///C:/Program%20Files/OpenCPN/Limanlar/Cyclades/Levitha.jpg

Re: Software to Introduce Hypertext Links in OpenCPN Waypoints

I see the extra slash mark, but that's not the problem I bet!

I think it's the space in "Program[space]Files. You are using OpenCPN 2.5 and it can't use them unless you add "%20" (no quotes)!just copy the browser address into the gpx
file:///C:/Program%20Files/OpenCPN/Limanlar/Cyclades/Levitha.jpg

.Sorry for the "help-not help".(I'm using several OpenCPN versions)I see your same problem exactly in 2.5.It's on the forum somewhere a month ago.

Re: Software to Introduce Hypertext Links in OpenCPN Waypoints

It's very odd though.I just made a brand new POI and it works perfectly in OpenCPN 2.5.The big difference from your experience is that my picture opens in my picture viewer and not the browser.Likewise a text file tested. The text file has a space in the name, too.I will change my default picture viewer to the browser and see...

nope.It works even with a space...But you are on to something, boraxtr, because I had the same error when I started trying to replicate what you are seeing with an older file. How?it doesn't seem possible!

Re: Software to Introduce Hypertext Links in OpenCPN Waypoints

I was working very well with my pois too
Thank you much SeaGull for the time you saved for my questions.
However I am disappointed with this useful tool if it is a fragile software or not.
Regards,

Hello,

Sorry I was sailing for a week ... if something does not work, please send the "gpx" file, it is the best way to solve the question ...

Regards.

I think I can replicate what boraxtr has...

Don't be confused by the Examplegpx folder you see in the screengrab. It is copied over from a backup because I fiddled with the first one and wrecked it.

Attachment 36066

but better boraxtr send the original gpx problem!

Re: Software to Introduce Hypertext Links in OpenCPN Waypoints

Have any of you tried using Paul's latest POI conversion program C2KMLGPX?

1. Set up the POI names, position and links in Google Earth and save as .kml file.

2. Upload the .kml file in C2KMLGPX and it creates your POI .gpx file which you save in OCPN 'layers' directory (where the .ini file is) and it is loaded automatically into the 'layers' area of the Route Manager every time you start OCPN.

The 'SymbolsMap.txt' file in C2KMLGPX even lets you select what kind of icon to use in OCPN,even your own.

I find this combination easier to use and more stable than MarinePoi.

Re: Software to Introduce Hypertext Links in OpenCPN Waypoints

Hi Robert, I hope we can solve it:

Here are the problems I am facing:
1- I can not import attached gpx file to the root manager's waypoins tab of opencpn.

2- I also can not open this file with Marine POI either and get this error message:

"Erreur d'ececution '9'........... (9 may be changed to 55 for sometimes)
Indice en dehors de la plage"

3- When I upload the other gpx files to the root managers waypoins of opencpn, I can not open internal links to my PC but internet links only.

4- The logfile of opencpn is attached:
Attached Files
File Type: doc logfile.doc (377.0 KB, 36 views)
File Type: doc Cyclades.doc (60.5 KB, 37 views)

Re: Software to Introduce Hypertext Links in OpenCPN Waypoints

boraxtr...
No wonder it does not work. GPX files have to be XML files, it means some characters have to be encoded to the respective entities and the opening and closing tags have to match.
In your file neither is the case. Now to the actual errors:
  1. in links all & characters have to be replaced with the &amp; entity
  2. There's a duplicate </link> without matching opening tag (and any data) on line 194
You have to be a little less evil to the tools you use

Now a little advice to avoid problems like this: Open your GPX file in an internet browser - if it displays the contents of the file, it's ok. Otherwise you should see an error, which usually is pretty explanatory. For example when you try to open your file in Firefox, it looks like the following and tells you, that the format is wrong (in this case that you have to replace the & chars)

Code:
XML Parsing Error: not well-formed
Location: file:///C:/Users/gtnde1/Desktop/Cyclades.gpx
Line Number 35, Column 66: <link href="http://www.panoramio.com/map/#lt=36.977187&ln=26.291099&z=4&k=2&a=1&tab=1&pl=all">
-----------------------------------------------------------------^
Attached is a fixed version of your file, just remove the .doc extension - it's not a word file.

There are more than 6 links in some of your Poi's. OpenCPN does not accept more than 6 links in each Poi. MarinePoi was adapted to this limitation and does not allow you to create more than 6 links in each Poi.

How did your obtain this "gpx" file with several errors ? With MarinePoi ? Exporting from OpenCPN ?

Re: Software to Introduce Hypertext Links in OpenCPN Waypoints

Robert...
There's actually not such a limit - if there's more than 6 links, they simply don't fit to the assigned window area. Expect a fix in the next 2.6 beta

Re: Software to Introduce Hypertext Links in OpenCPN Waypoints

Thank you Pavel and Robert,

1- Pavel, I could open the file (rootemanager/waypoins) on the chart after you fixed the erors. However internal links, links to my pc still fail even of the path is right while internet links work. I hope to find a solution: May be to delete and create them all again?

2- Robert, I did not see 6 links at the pois. However I could add 6 or more since did not know the limit.

3- But Robert's question may be the way to develope in using MarinePOI:

Quote:
How did your obtain this "gpx" file with several errors ? With MarinePoi ? Exporting from OpenCPN ?
First of all I have any software and any hardware knowledge, even I am not an engineer. I am just a skipper who wants to navigate with pc instead of the chart plotter as a navigation tool.

Some days ago I created some of my POIs withh MarinePoi for the next summer trip from GoogleEarth, saved the ports as jpg and kept them all in a folder. They all working very fine, without any problem.

Some days later I wanted to go on my work with adding some internet links. BUT to open each POI with MarinePOI seemed very difficult for me. Then I opened directly gpx file and added the links. I had downloaded these links from this forum, tested and they were working good. Then I changed the address af those links with mines. In the mid of the work, I tested my work but they were not working.

Then you know the result...

Why have I told these all so long?

Even MarinePOI is an execellent tool to plan a trip and to navigate with easily reachable informations, it is not easy to use, to change, to add the pois for a skipper like me. There may be more skippers to turn around these difficulty leading the mistakes or simlpy may avoid to use. MarinePOI may be more "user friendly". For exemple with right click on the POIs at the charts for the new information to add or to delete.

With the hope, Robert, you may take into account for the skippers like me in the next phase of your works This is why I told these all so long

Regards,
Hasan
