Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

Paul,good point!
Don't open a route or track with MarinePOI and save it without knowing about the "Temp" feature!I tried it (now that you've mentioned it) and MarinePOI wipes them right out.

That should definitely be in the help file...that MarinePOI extracts the waypoints only and creates a different file.It needs the option to NAME the new file.

If Microsoft does that way, then your argument is very strong In practice, this change takes 2 minutes... OK, will do so in the next release.

Robert,You are Superman!but don't do it if you disagree.
I really lost the feel for "Intuitive" after my first year with Windows98

OK, I'll add an automatic warning if there are routes in the "gpx" file.

I will also add the following in the tutorial Pratiques et Techniques de la Plaisance

"Caution: if the "gpx" file exported from a navigation software contains both WP and routes, then MarinePoi retains only the WP to turn them into Pois. The routes will be removed in the resulting "gpx" file. The basic function of "MarinePoi" is to create "gpx" files of Pois only.

If you have a better suggestion for a poor non-English speaking guy ....

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

Robert, good points in #90....I wonder if as a quick fix to a perceived problem (if it is a problem! )
maybe...
MarinePOI appends the name with "MP" or something when saving,so she won't overwrite the original? This would also inform that THIS gpx has links;is special;is a "keeper";is for export to friends,etc...

eg:"killerwhale_oct24_2011.gpx" becomes "killerwhale_oct24_2011_MP.gpx" or "MP_killerwhale_oct24_2011.gpx"

PS:You may be poor, but you are not "non-English speaking"!

Ooops ? MarinePoi does not change the filenam when saving. Strange ...

By cons, MarinePoi creates a subdirectory "tmp" which stores the last 30 changes in the "your_file_name.gpx" file with the name "your_file_name.gpx.nn" where "nn" goes from 30 to 1, 1 being the oldest and the most recent being 30.

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

Robert, sorry,if I was not clear.I am just "tossing it out there" as an idea.

To make MarinePOI automatically rename her saved gpx by adding an automatic prefix ("MP")is just an idea.I know zero about writing an application, but I have the idea -I do not know where I get it!it is likely wrong!-that it is easier or simpler to write into the code than the option to "save as" as the WindowsGUI often has it...
But I like MarinePOI very well as she is!It is just an idea that would mean writing a "Caution" into the help file would not then be necessary....
Of course,as you say,the temp files will protect the user too!But it is maybe not so plain,is all.

Try it with a "gpx" file containing routes :

http://upload.plaisance-pratique.com...ngue-V1.2h.zip

I added a warning in the tutorial and in the software automatically if a "gpx" file with routes is loaded.

Hummm .... if a prefix is added automatically to the file name at each saving, you might be close to a nervous breakdown when thirty consecutive prefix appear at the beginnig of the file name. Forgive me, I'm kidding

No,you are right.I thought of that too. I would just delete them and keepor even rename the fair copy when I was done.
I "threw it out there" but I don't mind a bit if it gets run over!

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

Here's a series of poi's prepared from an existing route from Isla Mujeres to Rio Dulce. I've only prepared links for Isla Mujeres so far as an example.

Would be great if the final .gpx file could also be saved to the 'layers' directory on the OCPN .ini area for automatic inclusion at startup.

You could set up a 'Configure' area to set the default paths required once and for all as OCPN stores it's .ini file in different directories depending upon OPS.

Have you replaced the old files "languageEN.txt", "languageFR.txt" "languageSELF.txt" with the new files?

Warning messages are in the language files ...

The warning only appears if a "gpx" file containing a route is loaded

happy New Year
