Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

Robert..

Re my #102
Something strange happened when I set up the last Isla Mujeres pois.
I prepared all the waypoints in the poi but only filled in links in the first one.
To my surprise, all the subsequent poi's have been duplicated with the links in the first one?

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

Robert,

I believe that the standard for saving a modified file to the same file name is to display a dialog box asking the user if he/she wants to overwrite the existing file. If the answer is "no" then a dialog box is displayed asking the user for a new file name. This dialog allows the user to save the file or cancel the save operation altogether. This process will loop until the user either overwrites the old file or saves to a new file.

I am puzzled by the divergent opinions concerning the procedure to save the file ... When editing a "Microsoft Word" file (or other file type), when saving it no questions are asked about the name or how to save it. However one can choose "save as".

So I will add the tab "save as" in the next release.

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

A classic layout with the first tab on the left side "File" that includes 3 sub-tab to load and save files :

http://upload.plaisance-pratique.com...ngue-V1.2i.zip

Unzip and replace 4 files in ".../program files/MarinePoi" folder.

Hopefully this will resolve the various issues concerning the opening and saving the file

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

Robert..

The operating system normally asks permission to overwrite an existing file,no need for it twice?

A configuration area would be great, where the users directory preferences could be set, especially for saving to the 'layers' directory in the OCPN's .ini area.

Re my #106 above. any idea why the links entered in the first poi was copied to all the others?

My operating system (XP-SP3) overwrites the file without prompting ... Therefore the tab "save as ..."

Using "save as .." you can choose a directory, and the software will remember next time you use "save as ..."

Can you specify reproducible circumstances ? Perhaps send an example before and after ?

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

I used an existing group of waypoints from a previous journey, deleted all waypoints not to include poi's and saved the file.

Loading the file in MarinePoi,I entered links in just the first poi nr. 1.
To my surprise it was duplicated in ALL the other pois?

See attached file...

Entering manually from scratch works normally, one at the time.

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

Would it be possible to drop marks of interest in an existing list of waypoint, save the file as .gpx and have MarinePoi delete all waypoints without mark icons?

If so,this file could be overlaid the original route from the OCPN 'layers' area, would not cause any interference and would not be deleted when the route is changed/deleted.

What I need is the "gpx" wp-file just before you enter the first link that has spread our to all wp. This will allow me to test what happens when entering the link, or to find what was unexpected in the original file.

If this incident was not reproducible, it is better to forget it, something was wrong in the initial file.

happy New Year

Robert,
Ok,I have double-checked that the language files are the newest and that they do contain the warning.

I do get a warning when opening a Track, but not when opening a Route.

here's the route.I've tried longer routes and also the "Mixed GPX" (those that contain separate Marks also )that O exports but no warning.

testMarinePOI_RouteWarn.gpx.doc

PS: Happy New Year,all!
PPS This is using the previous version.I am just going to try the newest now!

OK, Sinbad, I know what happened.

In OpenCPN two different WP can have the same name, or even no name at all. For this reason, MarinePoi does not use the WP-name to identify a WP from OpenCPN, but the time stamp of the WP. The reason to do so, is that you cannot create two WP at exactly the same time stamp, there will be at least a 1 second gap.

By an unknown mechanism, you have managed to create a "gpx" file giving all WP exactly the same creation time stamp ! Incredible!

Date :First Decembre 2010, time stamp :00h00mn00sec Zoulou 2010-12-01T00:00:00Z

So, as "MarinePoi" identified by its timestamp the first WP to assign the link, it also assigned to all of the remaining WP with the same timestamp the same link.

I am afraid there is no solution to this incredible scenario ... It would be interesting to see how OpenCPN could generate such a "gpx" file....

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

Robert..

OCPN did not create those timestamps. I used a conversion program to convert the route to WP and the program gives them all the LAST timestamp.

I think it is far better to create poi's INDEPENDENTLY as they will remain permanently.

Thanks for testing...

I think the distinction is this:

An editor (like MS Word) does not blanket convert a file I open and remove data. The only changes it saves are changes I specifically made.

A conversion program (say, like MS PowerTools image resizer) is making massive, usually data-loosing changes. It defaults to creating a copy. You have to specially choose to have it overwrite.

The program you have is not an editor, it is a conversion program.

IMO it should not overwrite without a warning. I think it should prompt for a name to save as. And warn about data loss if overwriting.
