Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

Robert, thanks for the explanation per "link breaking" and Poi folders-it makes good sense to share Pois easily.
(posts 53 and 54 )
Plus,I just noticed that MarinePOI makes a backup of the original and unbroken gpx in the Poi's "temp" folder anyways!

The release with the English text written by Seagull is available here http://www.plaisance-pratique.com/IM...nePoi_1_2f.zip

or here : Pratiques et Techniques de la Plaisance

Thanks to SeaGull !

Always uninstall MarinePoi before installing a new release !

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

Robert..

Would it not be possible to provide a MarinePoi version as a plug-in to OCPN which could work BOTH with and without Google Earth and the necessity of an internet connection? After all,you can get all the co-ordinates from OCPN.

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

Sinbad,

Yes, of course, it is possible to provide a plugin version of MarinePoi as you mention. The flow chart of MarinePoi is very simple.

However, I do not know the mysteries of the OpenCPN source-code, and without assistance it would cost me much time and effort.

If anyone wants to help ...

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

I second that,Sinbad!
Using it more,I am finding more advantages particular to MarinePOI.By using it's own folders so well,it's already similar to the "layers" folder, and the "Usericons" folder already employed in OpenCPN.
...were it to be made into a plugin,I wouldn't want MarinePOI's temp folder of backups to be lost, but maybe these could be limited to the last 3 or 4 for each?

Better yet,MarinePOI could MERGE withOpenCPN's Mark/waypoint dialogue.
or Merge with Nohal's GE plugin.
the GUI has unmistakeable similarities and could be tabbed in?Wish I knew how..

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

Robert..

I believe there is a special area in the OCPN website dealing with the type of plugin system required. The problem is that the various plugin systems are not compatible with the present OCPN system.

Have a look: About Plugins | Official OpenCPN Homepage

I am sure Dan or Thomas could advice you as to which one to use once the latest v.2.6 has become stable and released.

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

Robert..

I have a suggestion on how to use MarinePoi without the need of Google Earth!

In OCPN, do a series of right clicks and drop marks where you require the info icons to be. When finished, save them all as 'temporary.gpx file'.

It is now easy for MarinePoi to use the waypoints to create the icons on the OCPN map for further editing.

Start MarinePoi and import the saved temporary.gpx file.

You can now enter all the link details and save as temporary.gpx.

Using the OCPN Route Manager's 'Layers' area, use Temporary layers to import the saved temporary.gpx file.

Just tried it with samples 1-5 placing waypoints as described above and..IT WORKS!!

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

Sinbad,
it's a great method! I will add this possibility in the MarinePoi manual. MarinePoi can import the "gpx" file exported from OpenCPN.

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

Not sure I follow you,Sinbad...Do you mean that MarinePOI won't try to start GE this way?I can't get that to happen, but I haven't uninstalled GE either.Have you?

and why name it "temporary"?MarinePOI can already open an OPCN exported gpx whatever its name is....just don't name it "temp.gpx" and then try to open it because that belongs to MarinePOI and she will crash....
edit:what am I missing here?

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

Works like a dream.. I've just created 31 info points along the coast of Norway containing harbours, weather and AIS targets in the area.

The AIS page can also display the wind situation for several days ahead as well as show all the major lights along he coast.

You can call the first 'collection file' anything you like,I used temporary.gpx
This is just used to save the dropped marks.

Use MarinePoi in the normal way and just ignore Google Earth,in fact, there could be a tick box to select/de-select GE like in GE2KAP.

You just read in the temporary.gpx file and start adding the links in MarinePoi.

I then suggest you save the file with a name of your choice in the 'Layers' directory where OCPN keeps it's .ini file. Each time you start OCPN,this file will be automatically loaded in the Route Managers 'Layers' area.

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

Yes it works here as well. I work on the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles.
The Marmara Sea will soon be over ...
With weather forecast, photos and map the ports and marina

But we can both create POI with OpenCPN or GE. One or the other without any problems

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

..oh,I see,I guess.I've only ever used OpenCPN's gpx files in MarinePOI anyways. But it works with some other apps' gpx too(EasyGPS tried once-ok,apparently)
Not Garmin Mapsource or Nuvi car GPSexports though. These do not close a gpx file properly...however, OPCN can open these ,and they can then be exported to work fine in MarinePOI .So MarinePOI + OPCN can add jazz to your highway cruises too!

A new "Zip" release with the option "Using or not using Google Earth" : http://upload.plaisance-pratique.com...-2g-Update.zip

Unzip and copy the four files replacing the previous version in "program files"

Tell me if it works !

Happy New Year
