Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

Hello Tore
I knew the use of layers. But I have a problem to save several layers under a new name. For example
Layers POI + Layers WP + layers route = "global layers"
How to save "global layers" ???
thank you
Michel

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

Michel..

Just import ALL your poi's into Waypoints and then export them to ONE common file name in the 'layers' directory where the .ini file is located. At the OCPN initiation, this file will automatically be loaded into the Layers section. All the INDIVIDUAL/NEW poi's are stored in the main MarinePoi directory.

This method answers my earlier request to be able to also EXPORT from the Layers area as my main WORLD INFO.gpx will be loaded upon start of OCPN and the poi's c an not be deleted accidentally from the map.

Michel..

Is there any way you could alter your 'Anhorage' icon to 'userpoi.xpm' selectable from the UserIcons directory in the OCPN .ini directory? This way we can alter the poi icon to our choice. At the moment, the only OCPN default icon you can alter is ownship.xpm as far as I can see.

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

Michel! Brilliant!
I'm just starting with this but using the "langueSELF.txt as a way to describe what each field is for is GENIUS! A wonderful idea for translations but....naturally,I am editing it to "make sense to me"...for instance,I changed

C[Label7] / " File of the new file linked to the Poi "
to:
C[Label7] / "Path of the new file linked to the Poi " or" Browse to the new file to link to the POI" is even clearer, where there's a button to do this...

I didn't actually install it-I hate installing things unless I know just which dlls and so on they might replace...it can break things sometimes.I just extracted it from the cab and run it from it's own folder wherever I want it. and I guess this is only works because I already have "good-enough" dlls registered in my (XP)computer...
Would it work portably if I did not have these dlls registered? in Wine on Linux, for instance?

Would this work if I didn't want or have GE installed?..maybe.if it didn't start GE unless I tell it to?Or would it crash?

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

Hello
Thank you for the compliments, but ... must be given to Robert, what belongs to Robert.
We are both, Plaisance Pratique, on a French website, and we work a lot on OpenCPN here in France.
It was Robert who created MarinePoi, I develop applications only

Hello HappySeagull

You can edit "languageEN.txt" for improving the English translation. "LanguageSELF.txt" is rather intended for other languages.

You do not need to install MarinePoi if all DLLs are present.

If GoogleEarth is not installed, or if Internet is absent, MarinePoi should work anyway, although there might be situations where a fatal error could occurs. We will see in real use, tell me your trials.

Regards,

Robert.

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

Thanks,Robert, that is a help.I will test and see if I can crash it without GE Also as a new user,I did not want to edit the "langueEN.txt" in case I made bad mistakes! and couldn't understand the French (c'est moi,c'est mal) but I will get smart and make some copies of these!..

sil vous plait, a question about the "save" button ?...I "save"my changes but when I "Quit",MarinePOI asks me again if I want to save....so, does "save" mean that the changes are just temporarily saved?...ps:I noticed the temp folder in the directory

Yoruk,

Just make a directory "layers/global_layers".
All contents of .gpx files under this directory will become the layer you want...
including "layers/global_layers/Layers_POI", "layers/global_layers/Layers_WP","layers/global_layers/Layers_route" etc.

I was too lazy to test when leaving if a backup had already been done!

There is the possibility that changes were made after saving the files and before leaving. I must handle this more subtly ... in a future release ...

In my request #33 above I would like to use the following 24x24 pix info icon.
Would it be possible to do the way I suggested?

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

yoruk..

I presently keep ALL my poi-layers.gpx material in a sub-directory of the MarinePoi directory, ready for additions, alterations, editing.

After each time I have made a change in any poi.gpx file,I IMPORT all the files into the Waypoints directory, having first made sure it is empty. I then EXPORT all the poi.gpx files to the special layers sub-directory located in the same directory as the .ini file using the name WORLD INFO.gpx

I now have a single 'global' poi.gpx file being automatically imported to the Route Manager's 'layers' area.

You could of course export a global.gpx file for each activity, which could be switched off/on in the layers section as required.

Thank you, I understand.
Actually I'm working on a folder to the Dardanelles, the Bosphorus, Marmara Sea North and South Marmara Sea.
I would have four files in layers, and as many files by Poi. With the ability to enable or disable each. Each individual file can be transferred to WP.
I go up it when it's over

Sinbad, the "gpx - xml" language is used by various navigation softwares.

Therefore, MarinePoi is designed to operate independently of OpenCPN, because even if you do not use OpenCPN you can create POIs that you display with MarinePoi itself or with another navigation software.

In order to utlise the WP symbol library of OpenCPN, I should write a version of MarinePoi integrated in OpenCPN. In this case, MarinePOI would be a "plugin" of OpenCPN.

The latest release maintains the symbols when MarinePoi modifies a "gpx" file exported from OpenCPN, a first step ...in the direction of your desires ! Perhaps a future release? Who knows?
