Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

Michel..

Great utility! But I am having problems entering details of the POI.
The .gpx entry point at the top will only LOAD existing .gpx and will
not accept new ones to be entered.

I can also not find a way to enter all the links in the main links area.

How can I use my own info icon instead of the 'Anhorage icon'?

Click on ">>>", a window opens, chose a directory and introduce a new file name.

The icon cannot be changed by MarinePoi because this software is not a OpenCPN plugin. Only OpenCPN can change the icon.

The way to enter links is described here : "Add or link useful information to a POI :" Pratiques et Techniques de la Plaisance

Try this version : http://upload.plaisance-pratique.com...nePoi-1-2f.zip

Unzip und replace 4 files in the \program files\MarinePoi\ folder.

Tell me if it works as you wish ...

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

A new version is available : http://www.plaisance-pratique.com/IM...nePoi_1_2f.zip

Uninstall the previous version befor installing the new one.

- Icons are preserved
- When a "gpx" file is loaded, the Googe Earth window opens, showing simultaneously all WP-POIs of the "gpx" file.

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

Michel.

The new version will not load files from any directory and aborts.
I have re-installed the previous, basic MarinePoi.exe direct to the directory and it now
works but often aborts if I chose directories too soon.

I have many previous 'Info' .gpx files in the Route Manager's Waypoints list and I just imported the new POI.gpx files to the same area and then saved it all to 'WORLD.GPX'
You can now delete ALL files in the Waypoints area and import 'WORLD.GPX' in the Layers area which now just shows as ONE file and does not take up ANY space in the Waypoints area. At max 100 POI's per each single .gpx line it will save a lot of space.

I only wish there was a way to also 'SAVE' in the layers area.

I have changed the achor icon to one of my own installed 'Info' icons.

Thanks for a great utility.

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

There seems to be a serious systems in-compatability between MarinePOI and Windows Vista. Installation in the normal way produced a lot of error messages in French, and only by copying the actual marinepoi.exe to the MarinePoi directory made it work. Many times,if going for the target directory too quickly, the whole program aborts. Only by waiting 10-15 seconds between each key press does it finally execute the program.
I will see if I can catch some of the error messages later.

However, the program is really great when it works and saves a lot of time entering points of interest around the world. Owing to a limit within the 'Additional information' box itself, only 6 entries can be made, but you can of course make a jump to a secondary menu with as many options as you like. See 'Hummelsund' a little to the South of Bergen on the attached map.

The latest version uses a newer compiler that does not give the warning messages you saw.

MarinePoi aborts if Googe Earth has not finished loading. Your Internet connection (or PC) may be slow. I will add a warning that Google Earth has not completed loading.

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

I am using the former version having copied directly the MarinePoi.exe, avoiding the normal installation procedure.

When I try the latest version I get lots of warning screens in French and it does not install. Again moving just the executive just aborts.

I will try again...

Do not forget to uninstall before installing again. If necessary complete uninstalling by removing the contents of the program folder "MarinePoi".

The latest version (3 hours ago) http://www.plaisance-pratique.com/IM...nePoi_1_2f.zip handles some errors due to the simultaneous use of Google Earth and another software.

If your Internet connection is slow, start Google Earth before launching MarinePoi and wait for Google Earth has been brought up.

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

Most of theses messages are warnings telling you some Windows libraries on your PC are newer than the ones you are installing (this is consistant with Vista which is newer than the compiler) and suggests to keep the newest version.

The second message said that you unzipped the installer in the folder c:\Program Files\MarinePoi . This is not correct, unzip the installer in a temporary folder. Make sure that the folder c:\Program Files\MarinePoi is absolutely empty before installation.

You can keep the previous version if you like, the difference is just the management of a few run time errors.

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

After a fresh install in C:\program files\MarinePoi\ the program seems to have become stable and is working well.

I have entered a whole lot of 'info' icons in Southern Norway,so far containing a list of all the guest marinas as well as a monitoring of AIS traffic in the areas. Later,I will add other useful features.

Thanks for a great and time saving utility.

Re: Software to introduce hypertext links in OpenCPN waypoints

As shown in my # 29,the combination of ALL .gpx files in Waypoints are Exported/saved as 'WORLD INFO.gpx' in a new directory called 'layers'.

Layers that are saved in a directory called "layers", in the same place that holds your opencpn.ini(config) file, are automatically loaded on start of OpenCPN.

Easiest way to find this is to go to the - button in the ToolBar and look all the way down
in the first tab (About). In Vista it is: Logfile location: C:\ProgramData\opencpn\layers\

In this way,ALL your created .poi's will be contained in the WORLD INFO.gpx file and
shown AUTOMATICALLY in the 'layers' section of the Route Manager at the OCPN startup time. Switch all the poi's off/on by clicking the icon preceding the .gpx file.

Couldn't be easier!
