Ship Icon / Symbol

Hi, is it possible to change the icon/symbol of the ship? Sorry if this question has been up front before but I did not find any related hits when searching the forum.

You want to try the really old threads on the subject, the current icon is already an update for the old one, you can find the filename in that thread. You will have to replace it in the source and recompile.

What are you looking to do?

Because I use that on a daily basis. One other option could be to add the possibility to configure the ships length and beam so it would display the ships contours.

There's been discussion of this, this isn't a priority at all.. You will have to find out how to do it yourself, see my explanation above

.png icons are embedded as C code. Scripts for creating wx widgets compatible C code is in the source directory if you want to make your own.

See: Embedding PNG Images - WxWiki

I used the perl script to create icons.cpp... So, Opencpn uses the icons embedded in src/bitmaps/icons.cpp

vedis....

I will add configurable ship icon to the list of upgrades for Version 2.2.

This will be a simple .bmp or .png file specified in the config file. So, it can be whatever the user wants.

Thanks for the input

Thumbs up

Thank you! I use Transas NaviSailor daily and it's a very good and professional chartplotter. But... OpenCPN is in my opinion a very stable and good software and I use OpenCPN with CM93, works perfect. The only thing I want is different icon (it's way to big at this moment). Of course, I can't require anything, this is just my wish.

NaviSailor is expensive and I know several skippers that is looking for alternative software, OpenCPN is one of them.

Anyway, keep up the good work!

For the smaller waterways it is good to resize the icon to the ship's real dimensions
