Search for specific chart ID

I've been using OpenCPN for a while now and have checked the user manual but as of yet I cannot find a feature that allows searching for a specific Chart ID and then viewing that chart. Is there a way to do this?

Thanks!

I have the same problem. I would like to see a feature where you can click on the area (as shown by yellow boxes) and automatically download the appropriate charts...Instead I just start downloading huge sections of charts, looking to fill in the space.

Re: Search for specific chart ID

Thank you for the reply. However, this is not the feature that I'm looking for.

I've already downloaded and am using several regions. So I know the Raster Chart ID that I want to view. Is there a feature for searching directly for that Chart ID (e.g. 11548) and then displaying that chart that has already been downloaded?

Thanks!

Re: Search for specific chart ID

You are talking about NOAA US raster charts, right?

And looking for a feature like "Goto Chart 12345, if this exists"?

No, not implemented.
And it looks to me that Chart numbers are not unique when looking over the (NOAA/NGA) fence.
Obviously one might restrict the search to one chart directory.

Re: Search for specific chart ID

bcn,

Thank you for the quick reply.

That is what I was looking for.

So it seems to me that the quickest way to find a chart is to zoom out sufficiently, then recenter the overview map to the geographic location one is looking for then zoom in. Is that correct?

Or is a possible quicker way to to a Chart Object Search using the plugin?

Any other methods?

Thanks,
macedonia

Re: Search for specific chart ID

One - incomplete manner - is to use the "chart piano":
hovering over the single chart rectangles you will see the chart number. Clicking then on that "piano key" will center the view on this chart.

But this implies that the zoom range is the right one for your purpose - bringing the chart into the selection, even if it is not displayed.
You might want to play at Options|Display|Advanced with the settings for Zoom weighting for Raster to see if this does help you.

Re: Search for specific chart ID

Also....if you activate chart outlining, use the "O" key, you can see the geographical limits of each chart. If you only want to see one chart, change from quilting-mode to single-chart-mode by using the "Q" key.
Single chart mode is very useful for raster charts as you get access to all the info printed outside the chart proper.

Thanks Thomas!

That's very helpful.

All the suggestions have helped improved how I move around in the charts.

Thanks again,

I believe there is a tracker request, if vote for it. If not make a new one.
