Thumbs up Sea Clear WCI Conversions

The OpenCPN.org documentation on
Chart Formats | Official OpenCPN Homepage
directs users to a really complicated process for converting SeaClear WCI chart formats to kap.

I would like to suggest that this be modified to direct people to MapC2MapC which can open a WCI file directly and save it immediately as a KAP file. No hassles, quick and easy. If the file needs correction or cropping MapC2MapC does it quickly and even uses GoogleEarth to check calibration points. I've used MapC2MapC to convert my huge library of WCI files to kaps and it works a treat.

The program can be downloaded at: MapC2MapC Download

I use MapC2MapC almost daily as a quick and dirty alternative to the Autodesk Map frankenroutine they have spliced together for creating geo referenced images. No one told me it was using GE to check my data! My liability muscle is not relaxed with this news....

When MapC2MapC can handle creating polygonal collars, or plys, save chart data in extended BSB format and display it all so that even the nearly blind can see it...WINNER!

MC2MC is fantastic for creating KMLs from kaps, by the way.

WCI format is something not mentioned around here very often.

Re: Sea Clear WCI conversions

Jim, the guy who created MapC2MapC is happy to work with you (or anyone else) who would like to add features to the program. I KNOW because I approached him with the plea to get MapC2MapC to open WCI files directly and then save them as kap files. So contact him and he will adapt the program to whatever you need. Have you checked out the latest version? Big changes from the old one. As for using GE - that's an option YOU have, not one that is imposed on you by the program. And I find it really works well (I cross check with known ground survey GPS Points.

Anyway, contact John Thorn by emailing him calfiles (at) the-thorns.org.uk and explain what you would like the MapC2MapC program to do. I'd be surprised if he can't accomplish it for you.

Re: Sea Clear WCI Conversions

I just tried MapC2MapC and my KAP are coming up with X's all over the chart also the colors are being changed and reduced to 2 or 3 colors. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
