S63_PI Beta Test 0.4.0

Ahoy, OpenCPN'ers...

The First Beta test (0.4.0) of the S63 PlugIn is available for download now.

This PlugIn is now Feature-complete, and ready for final testing prior to Release.

Changes from the last alpha test are minimal, involving enhanced UI features and improved S63 cell permit and encryption key security.

Installation, use, and test procedures are as documented for previous Alpha versions of s63_pi.

This PlugIn requires OpenCPN Version 3.3.1606 or later (i.e. the current Beta).

Special note for Mac users:
We are still having some trouble with language file locations, for this PlugIn, and PlugIns in general.
For now, you must manually copy the required language files from the s63_pi .dmg file into the OpenCPN package contents, something like this (for German language files):

from: {wherever .dmg mounted}/s63_pi/Contents/Resources/de.lproj/s63_pi.mo
to: {wherever OpenCPN installed}/OpenCPN/Contents/Resources/de.lproj

Fixing this problem is a priority, but will probably require a new OCPN beta as well, so expect some delay on a permanent solution.

As a reminder, you may exercise the S64 Test set using the following special permits:
User Permit: 66B5CBFDF7E4139D5B6086C23130
Install Permit: 38F99B50

Pending a clean test cycle, we may safely anticipate a Production Release in a couple of weeks. We expect minimal changes to the code-base upon Release.

Also, we now feel confident that users may purchase commercial S63 chart cells from authorized suppliers, and use the Beta s63_pi PlugIn (with OpenCPN Version 3.3.1606 or later) for daily navigation.

Thanks for your patience and interest.

Good Luck
Dave

Re: S63_PI Beta Test 0.4.0

o-charts.org is updated and the new versions are on-line for download.

Our work on the web-shop is still a bit delayed - means that the purchase of charts is not yet possible. We think we will be able to launch this at the end of this week.
We will purchase some charts first, and test those before throwing anybody else into the swimming pool.

Happy testing and stay tuned for further News later this week!

Win8.1:
PI will be installed in 3.3.1419 and not in 3.3.1606 as expected
Had to be copied manually afterwards

bcn...

More info, please. What was your OCPN setup before running the PlugIn installer? Where was 3.3.1419? Where was 3.3.1606?

Thanks

Re: S63_PI Beta Test 0.4.0

Standard 8.1: C:/programs(x86)/openCPNver....

with 3.3.1419 and .1606 installed in parallel the plug-in went into 1419/plugins and not into .1606/plugins. The Installer shows 1419 as target directory.

Btw: the Installer calls itself still 3.3.1117 or so...

Re: S63_PI Beta Test 0.4.0

Dave,
I have made an installer:
http://topperdiek.de/dl/S63-Plugin.pkg

But I cannot test the correct OpenCPN version because you have not provided a version number in your Mac build. So the S63 plugin installs in any OpenCPN.app found in applications folder. Please update your Info.plist file in the bundle.

Re: S63_PI Beta Test 0.4.0

CarCode...

Which key in Info.plist would be easiest for you to recognise?

Code:
    <key>CFBundleLongVersionString</key>
    <string></string>
    <key>CFBundleShortVersionString</key>
    <string></string>
    <key>CFBundleVersion</key>
    <string></string>
I can do any...

Thanks

Re: S63_PI Beta Test 0.4.0

Dave,
you might take all of them.

I have renamed also the *.mo files in my installer above from s63_pi.mo to opencpn-s63_pi.mo. I don't know if it is correct since there is no s63 0.4.0 at git right now. However the *.mo files have been called so in git version 0.3.0.

Last paragraph at "S-63 PI-explained":
The PI can't be at GIT - it's a Black part of the S-63 stuff

Re: S63_PI Beta Test 0.4.0

Hubert,
you should really know that better.
Even the version 0.4.0 consist of 2 parts: libs63_pi and OCPNsenc.
Only the latter is a black box as far as I know.

Re: S63_PI Beta Test 0.4.0

bcn...

Regarding S63 PlugIn and parallel installs of OCPN on Windows.

The S63 Plugin install location may be changed during installation. If you have parallel installations of OCPN, you should manually ensure that the PlugIn goes to the correct install directory by exercising the "Browse" button..

I just did some quick tests, and this process works for me.

However, the 0.4.0 install has a small fault. It fails to install the language files into the proper OCPN "share" location when working with a user selected parallel install.

Re: S63_PI Beta Test 0.4.0

Gerhard....

1. I built a new buildosx/Info.plist for OCPN 3.3.1606, now available in github master. This is the interesting part:
Code:
    <key>CFBundleShortVersionString</key>
    <string>3.3.1606</string>
You should be able to drop this into the 3.3.1606 bundle for local testing of your installer package.
I need to write a sed script to keep this thing up-to-date during the release process.

2. The name of the language files is "s63_pi.mo", with no leading "opencpn". This is different than for the built-in PlugIns ( dashboard and grib)

3. S63_pi 0.4.0 is now available in github. I simply forgot to push it. Sorry.
https://github.com/bdbcat/s63_pi

4. I like your installer .pkg. Very smooth. If you have, or can build, a script to create the .pkg installer for Mac, that would be great. We could integrate into the CMake process for Mac, adding a new build target as needed, and get a much more useable installer than an opaque .dmg for the PlugIn. And then extend to other third party PlugIns, as well. Please let me know how I can help.

Re: S63_PI Beta Test 0.4.0

Dave,

I will update the s63 installer for Mac and will give you a new link to it.

As far as I know there is no command line driven tool for creating installs.
I use the 3rd party tool Packages.app from WhiteBox - Packaging
There is also a similiar tool from Apple called Packagemaker.app which is part of the "Auxiliary Tools for Xcode" to be downloaded from the Apple Dev Center but this is also a GUI tool only and not as well documented as Packages.app.
