s63 plugin doens't work anymore in 16.04LTS

Recently I updates my Ubuntu 14.04LTS to 16.04LTS (through 15.10).
Almost everything works fine, but OCPN doesn't. The s63 plugin won't run anymore

Indeed, there is no 704_N17 etc. function available says strings. However, there is a 776_N17 etc. function in this lib:
marco@Laptop:/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu$ strings libwx_gtk2u_core-3.0.so.0 | grep 7wxGenericListCtrl31GetSizeAvailableForScrollTarge tERK6wxSize
_ZN17wxGenericListCtrl31GetSizeAvailableForScrollT argetERK6wxSize
_ZThn776_N17wxGenericListCtrl31GetSizeAvailableFor ScrollTargetERK6wxSize

I use s63 charts, so after this update... OPCN is chartless and thus useless

Any suggestions?

That is something Dave will need to have a look at.
Different time one, so please stand by...

Hubert

In the meantime: can you go back to 14.04 LTS?

Re: s63 plugin doens't work anymore in 16.04LTS

Thanks for the response, Hubert.

Of course I didn't just ask this question here. I also asked some unix / linux-geeks among my friends. One of them answered with this link (shame on me I didn't discover )
I don't know what the problem is / was, but now the plugin runs. No charts so far, but a re-import might solve that. Some other things not working OK - the upgrade 'broke' some other software as well.

Pavel made a remark about different GCC versions. Apparently Pavel compiled with the 'new' GCC. If that's really the case, well, maybe make a remark on the o-charts page - would have saved me a lot of time researching

For your other question: going back to 14.04LTS would probably mean a fresh install. Of course, that's possible. But it will cost some time and somehow I have to do the upgrade again - as other software requires 15.10 or higher.

Maybe someone can profit from this. Now let's get the charts visible. And see how stable the system is...

Thanks so far - will report later about charts (or no charts, depending on the outcome of the experiments )

Marco

Re: s63 plugin doens't work anymore in 16.04LTS

OK, after re-installing the charts the stuff works.

The version of the plugin doesn't have any log output on the screen - I think this was already broken in 1.4 from the o-chart site. But that's something survivable.

I hope documentation (on the o-charts site?) will be updated as soon as it's clear what the 'preferred' way to install this pluging in Ubuntu 15.xx and higher is.

Personally I would like to have a set of files 'off line' with me. Now I need internet. But again... for the moment it's running...

Re: s63 plugin doens't work anymore in 16.04LTS

Haven't been checking forums as often as I should, v busy. I've had s63 run perfectly in Ubuntu 16.04 since way back. Works like a dream and (really!) I've had nothing but joy from it. Had trouble to begin with, so with Hubert's help sorted it and afterwards made up my own doc, herewith.

If you've a straight Ubuntu install I can't see why this sequence wont work for you. A re-install of OpenCpn + charts is not really a pain, I did it in less than an hour.
