S-52 colors?

Hello everyone

I am creating a web map service that lets users see nautical charts.

One challenge I'm facing are the colors that different things should have (for example the color of land and sea). I have skimmed quickly over the IHO S-52 standard and they really take colors to a small science of its own.

The map server software can only take color values in the form of RGB. Does the OpenCPN project have any such specification they would kindly share with me

I have looked at some files from OpenCPN, and there are three day-styles defined. If someone could explain this concept I'd be really grateful.

Thanks!

Re: S-52 colors?

These are very basic questions, which makes me wonder if you have the qualification to set up a nautical chart service !
I'll give you a pointer: Figure out what the chartsymbols.xml file is here for in Opencpn in conjonction with the S-52 document.

And I do hope you have expertise in drawing complex objects...

Re: S-52 colors?

Hello everyone

I have a question: There seems to be three display classes for ENC:s, Base, Standard and Full, which govern what information is displayed.

I haven't found a definition of these classes, I have of course looked in the relevant documents published by IHO. Could anyone shed some light on this matter?

Another thing I'm wondering is: Where can you turn to learn more about digital nautical charts, ENC, ECDIS, et.c. are there any communities centered around these things?

For example there's supposed to be some site called openecdis.org but I can only seem to reach the inlandwater "sub-site" of it.
