Re: Run Your Laptop From The Cockpit With Your Smartphone
Paul..
Here is the response from Wyse- PocketCloud:
Roger Montalvo, Sep 06 01:30 pm (PDT): Capt.Christiansen,
1. Using the Windows Companion indicates that you are using Auto-discovery. This process requires a connection to the internet in order to maintain the connection to Gmail and to be able to locate your devices. It doesn't matter if your PC is in front of you or 5000 miles away.
2. On the other hand, if you define a manual connection, you are only using the local resources and all you need is the local WLAN to access your computer. For more details on creating a manual connection, please review the PocketCloud Users Guide.
Thank you for using PocketCloud.
Here is the PocketCloud User Manual:

Re: Run Your Laptop From The Cockpit With Your Smartphone
Hi all..
I canīt believe there is nobody here with sufficient expertise to help us make this
simple WLAN connection to an Androx devise running PocketCloud?
I donīt get any clear answers from Wyse, unfortunately, just references to a lot
of URLīs

Could one use this sort of connection with an iPad protected by a mil spec waterproof cover?

Re: Run Your Laptop From The Cockpit With Your Smartphone
Tore,
I got the manual connection working as a VNC. Now I can connect PocketCloud without the Internet. They sure don't make this easy.

Re: Run Your Laptop From The Cockpit With Your Smartphone
Its documented in their manual on page 40. You need to know your PC's Host Name which you can get by opening a CMD widow and typing: ipconfig /all its on the first line of the output.
If you are using a router then you will need its IP address.

Re: Run Your Laptop From The Cockpit With Your Smartphone
Thanks Paul..
I was given a similar instruction by Wyse but NOT the VNC option, which is why it didnīt work. At least I had it working one time off-line but seem to have difficulties again. Does it continue working locally for you even when internet is connected?

I had an issue entering the PC's Host Name. Not being massively technical I presumed it was just me. However when you open the Windows companion there is a "Diagnostics' button, when you click that it gives you the IP address of the laptop, and maybe it is only me but it didn't seem to be the same as the IP address I had identified on the lap top.

Re: Run Your Laptop From The Cockpit With Your Smartphone
Paul..
Yes it seems to work ONLY with internet disconnected.
I suppose it is possible to have two different options set up,the first one as the standard setup version for internet connection, and AFTERWARDS,with internet disconnected, set up a second off-line option using VNC. At least, that is how I will try to set it all up. Firewalls can also be a problem,so check it.

Re: Run Your Laptop From The Cockpit With Your Smartphone
Tore,
Mine works with or without the Internet but I'm using Connectify. Are you using the router?
But actually the whole thing seems a little flaky. If I leave it for awhile, I can't connect the Android to Connectify, I have to reboot.

I'm actually thinking of just some dashboard like info on a handheld. Perhaps a plugin that just sends NMEA info over the network with a simple integrated web server. Then I could even use an e-book reader as display: readable in sunlight, long battery life and required update frequency should be doable

Re: Run Your Laptop From The Cockpit With Your Smartphone
sctpc..
I am running PocketCloud on my Galaxy S II but I have used a manual installation method using the VNC option which works both off and on-line.
One thing to beware of is FIREWALLS. Zonealarm particularly, where I had given all the permissions for PocketCloud, yet it still blocks. Only by disabling it,so you gain access to PocketCloud.

Re: Run Your Laptop From The Cockpit With Your Smartphone
I managed to install PocketCloud AND PocketCloud Explorer on both my desktop PC as well as my Acer laptop. The laptop has of course USB ports to keep my Galaxy charged while away from mains and I have a nifty car lighter plug power supply for the laptop to use on board or in the car.
Only problem now is my desktop PC will only run in SAFE mode or otherwise aborts with a blue screen an warning shortly after installing the various drivers on start.
I tried un-installing the two PocketCloud programs but it made no difference.
Iīll have to get a specialist to have a look at it next week.

Re: Run Your Laptop From The Cockpit With Your Smartphone
Anyone running pocket cloud connected to a linux machine? My laptop running opencpn seems a bit unstable with a few usb/serial adapters connected, crashes now and again. Using linux seems pretty solid.
