Perhaps you find something useful here: 4shared folder - POLAR FILES

Are you not looking to get this into main?

Re: Route Planning with GRIB - Work in Progress

I have indeed removed the Windows executable from 4shared access, terminating the evaluation. The main reason is that for a key component of Windows build toolchain I do not hold a license that would enable me to distribute the product.

To integrate 2.5.1318 functionality into mainstream OpenCPN Dave asked me to package this into a plugin, but:
- I did not yet look at the 2.6 plugin i/f and I do not know if it is complete and sufficient for this task
- I have no idea how the dynamic rubber-band drawing of Polar Curve Butterfly should be properly implemented. It is not the most important feature and probably could be dropped altogether, but it looks so nice sometimes...
- Integrating this seems too much work to undertake without some signs of informed acceptance from the community for the functionality provided...

I use 2.5.1318 daily for route-centric Grib viewing for many thousands of simple miles now and am very happy with it.
In more advanced WR scenarios it was less useful, but also other free WR tools I tried did not prove sufficiently comfortable to use, mostly due to their complexity.

So, being happy with 1318, I'm on for more field experience before starting to code something ...

Trying not to leave the community in vain, I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on a 10-year old PC. However, my 2.5.1318 - compiled with 3 simple fixes - would not link due to 2 unsatisfied references in the area of TinyXML... As 2.6.1310 built earlier without problems (probably without the sound support, but the old PC has no speakers anyway), so there is still hope for feedback opportunities, but not quite today...

I attach the error log. Thanks in advance for all advice.

Re: Route Planning with GRIB - Work in Progress

Pjotr...
Can you post your source somewhere - much easier to fix it than to try to guess from the log...
Leaving to work on the boat in a few hours, but will have a look at your issue when I come back sometimes during the weekend.

Re: Route Planning with GRIB - Work in Progress

Pavel...
Thanks in advance.
The patch set is attached, complete, based at 2.5.0.
Implements all bugfixes I sent to Flyspray since, Grib Planner, Track to Route converter and DSC/DSE targets.
Patch #13 sets version 2.5.1318.
Patch #14 temporarily fixes the compile issues for Ubuntu.
Good luck with your boat.

Re: Route Planning with GRIB - Work in Progress

Pjotr...
I finally started to crunch your patches, here's a little progress report:
0001 - already applied upstream by Dave
0002 - already applied upstream by Dave
0003 - already applied upstream by Dave
0004 - already applied upstream by Dave
0005 - already applied upstream by Dave
0006 - Track to route logic - applied manually - builds OK, looks working OK from a quick test (and I love what it does )
0007 - already applied upstream by Dave
0008 - Not applied yet, waiting for Dave to discuss the changes it introduces as he sure does not like some of them and Grib plugin in 2.6 beta is not exactly in the best condition especially in respect of OpenGL. Yes, everybody waiting for weather routing in a regular beta release will have to wait a little longer...
0009 - already applied upstream by Dave
0010 - already applied upstream by Dave
0011 - already applied upstream by Dave
0012 - DSC split from Buddies to two commits to give it higher chance to get applied upstream - there are some changes in 2.6 AIS code, so I used b_positionOnceValid instead of b_positionValid and PositionReportTicks instead of ReportTicks - now builds OK, not tested at all
0013 - not relevant for the 2.6 beta code, not applied
0014 - supplement to 008, not applied

The code is in my github repo at https://github.com/nohal/OpenCPN/tree/pjotr if you want to switch your development environment to 2.6 betas

Please, please, if you can, make a repository there as well by forking https://github.com/OpenCPN/OpenCPN or mine and use feature branches not dependent on each other - it is MUCH easier to merge changes that way

Cheers

Pavel

Re: Route Planning with GRIB - Work in Progress

Pavel...

Thanks a lot for your efforts.

I am still not quite sure why my 2.5.0-based build does fail on Ubuntu...
But anyway I have to suspend now this development for some months - until coming back from the next trip, that is. I finish packing and go tomorrow morning. Perhaps I'll be online occasionally...

Please feel free to use the sources as you see fit.

Thanks again,

Piotr

Re: Route Planning with GRIB - Work in Progress

I could test the functionality in windows. I work with other wx and wx routing software quite a lot daily.

If you need any testing/opinions I can help provided it can be done under windows.

Cheers,
b.

Re: Route Planning with GRIB - Work in Progress

Keith...
Whatever I could merge is merged in the main tree, the weather routing part was too intrusive to merge and it has to be reimplemented as a plugin. If you want Pjotr's code, let me know (it's incompatible with the main source tree though)
