Re: Route on Polyconic

Useless info ..?my straightened version actually works a bit better (especially in the SE corner!see above post!) error is roughly -0.0398 lat,+.0522 long.down there.
but THIS is odd...marks swim as I pan my skew-edited chart or the original chart. If I clickndrag in a circle,so do they!
Not safe for navigation!

A few ideas. Of course OpenCPN could calculate the correct SK from the frame around the charts (the PLY:s), but this is an overhead that we could do without. A script could crawl a folder an do the correction as well.
But ... as it is a chart error, and probably restricted to a few charts that may be corrected in the next edition, let us treat it as such.
We can create a chart correction page for this kind of errors on OpenCPN.org with instructions for the user how to fix the error.
With US charts we could even host an updated version.

Onward to ply-play!I sure learn a lot here!I'm going to peck at this, now that I've already gobbled the soft bits.
just squawking,But why do they use a skewed polyconic here at 45 North,I wonder?

Re: Route on Polyconic

More:the old version OpenCPN 1.3.6 seems to open these accurately as originals..skewed but ok as to marks and position agreeing with CM93.Hmm.
Also, for comparison,Old VisNav 4 will if (and only if) there's a skew written in and Northup checked...

Plus,I rebuilt the kap with IMGKAP(which just uses corner calibrations). It seems to work in Version 3.4 if the North up is unchecked

Re: Route on Polyconic

...and before it confuses anyone else as much as me,it(1473_1) now works fine in OpenCPN when the north-up box is not checked....

Re: Route on Polyconic

Ktcanuck...Can you now draw routes on these ok with the UnskewCharts unchecked?Do waypoints match pretty well with CM93 or other charts?despite the tilt, they should.

ktcanuck, sorry,I meant per your original post...
"If I show the chart and overlay the route from an import it may show correctly initially but as soon as the scale is changed via the scroll wheel the route does not follow correctly...."

I mean, can you now draw a route and zoom in and out ok?Do the tilted charts work ok with your others?

Re: Route on Polyconic

Whether show north is on or not, it does not show north, it shows chart up. I turned it off. If I plot a route across a boundary (the two charts in play are 14774 and 14773) and zoom, the route stays put. If I move the display centre the route moves away from the original location.

KtDisable chart quilting!

If I have this on,I duplicate your problem.Try turning it off.Everything on my settings page is unchecked except "show chart outlines" and status bar

Re: Route on Polyconic

Yep, that fixed it! Now, it really should have worked with quilting on though, right? But this is a work around. Thanks Seagull!

Re: Route on Polyconic

Kt:you're superwelcome!I like to flap around where the seals are snorting. It helps me too.But maybe polyconics will never quilt exactly so.I guess they are getting even rarer as Charts...OpenCPN (and everything else?)just pretends they are Mercators...but you can play around with deconstructing em and rebuilding em as Mercators. There are tools piled all around here to do it...

Would you believe they still haven't fixed the charts, and I got caught by the exact same problem?

Waypoints and Markers Move Relative to Chart when Scrolling ?

Re: Route on Polyconic

If this bug had been entered into the tracker at the time, it would for sure have been fixed, prior to the release of 2.5 .
A forum is great for discussions, but not so good when it comes to tracking bugs.
Please use the tracker for all bugs: OpenCPN::Tracker All Projects: Tasklist
