Route Manager Head-Scratcher

Not a problem, just curious. When Route Manager is brought up, what is that first waypoint entry, ("Leg----, waypoint 001"), where for some reason an odd mileage number appears that seems to have no bearing whatsoever to my route? I have no trouble reading and using my Route Manager, but am curious as to what the significance of that number is.

Question Re: Route Manager Head-Scratcher

That thought had occurred to me, but I am currently planning a route from where I am NOW to my next destination, and that first mileage number is 1265! Is this because as I am planning this route, I do not currently have my GPS plugged in to the computer? Did the computer just pick this number at random? It's been years since I planned a route that started 1200 miles from my current position!

Re: Route Manager Head-Scratcher

Where is your OwnShip icon right now (or in the moment you started the planning of the route by introducing the first waypoint)?

You can play with this and place your OwnShip to any position you would like:
right-click at the point and select "move boat here" - now start a new route by placing a first waypoint. And have a look what is in the first line.
And btw.: you have the distance (and bearing) to the cursor from OwnShip at any given moment at the status line below. GPS connected or not.

Re: Route Manager Head-Scratcher

Hubert - Many thanks! You nailed it for me. I recall reading about the right click "move boat here" feature way back when I learned Open CPN, but have never used it. When we are underway, GPS is connected if we are using Open CPN, and when route planning, I don't really care about boat position. Once I "put" the boat somewhere w/the right-click, is there a way to delete it? Again, not a problem, just curious. Will it disappear when I connect the GPS for passage? thanks again for your input!

Re: Route Manager Head-Scratcher

Yes, in the moment there is a valid GPS fix the OwnShip will move accordingly.
