Raster charts not showing up

I've ran into this same problem on 3 other windows computers besides my own now with fresh installs of Opencpn 4.8.8. I've did some searching and it appears that others have had this problem too.

I cannot get the raster charts to show up.

I launch the program and click on TOOLS,OPTIONS,CHARTS, then CHART DOWNLOADER, then I click ADD.

Then I click USA - NOAA & Inland Charts, RNC, BY STATES, then I select CA - California and click OK.

I then click UPDATE, it connects and lists all the charts down below. I right click and click SELECT ALL, and then click DOWNLOAD SELECTED CHARTS. It then downloads 69 charts to my computer.

Once finish, I click APPLY and then OK. None of the downloaded charts show up.

I tried going back into OPTIONS and checking the boxed for "Scan charts and update database" as well as "Force Full Database Rebuild"

I've also turned off Open GL as well as cleared texture cache. Nothing works that I've tried.

The chart bar shows no charts. Show chart outlines shows nothing and Ive tried toggling quilting as well.

What am I doing wrong here? I did not have this issue in older versions. The charts always showed up fine.

Thanks for a clear description of your problem.

It looks to me that you have 2 empty chart groups, so try to right-click and choose chart group "All Active Charts".
If this did not bring up your charts we need to see your last session in the file opencpn.log.

By the way, in the next version of OpenCPN starting with an empty chart group will bring up a warning dialog.

Sure enough, that was the problem on my computer. Thank you.


I've seen this happen on fresh installs as well, maybe that's the same issue? Great idea for the warning box popup.
