Re: Raster Charts BSB3 Sweden and Finland

Teppo,

we sent the Finish agency a mail about 10 days ago and a reminder on Wednesday - no response.
Would you mind to call them directly perhaps to open contacts? Drop me a mail and I will forward you the mail we sent.

How about the Gulf of Finland and the Archipelago Sea?
Dockhead

The complete set of Swedish charts from Solteknik is 1195 SEK.
Gulf of Finland and the Archipelago Sea are 895 SEK each from Solteknik.
Just checked their website.

Re: Raster Charts BSB3 Sweden and Finland

Dockhead..
Soltek has all chart for Finland as well. The complete set for the same prize as for Sweden.

I suppose you'll not make a lot of Baltic sail this year? For at least two reason I'd follow Hubert's advice and wait till next year. Partly because the charts use to be updated around new year and the license key is valid for one calender year of updates. The other part is to see what a newly started discussion about easier availability for OpenCPN user for these charts can lead to.

Re: Raster Charts BSB3 Sweden and Finland

HI
These Soltek charts work just fine with opencpn.. one can buy them on cd or download a zip file. A key must be purchased to unzip/ install charts from cd.. a cd key is not functioning with zip file or zip key with cd. I hope I got the links OK... Go to http://soltek.se/db/cgi-bin/db.pl?ki...=db_lista.html for charts of sweden or http://soltek.se/db/cgi-bin/db.pl?ki...=db_lista.html for charts of finland

Yes, I'm already back in the UK, and normally buy updated charts in April before I leave.

And Estonia is not included. So for about 300 euros you get just one corner of the Baltic sea.

Selling charts for such small areas is for coastal sailors, and at that price is not really feasible for the long distance sailor. Compare to Visitmyharbour which gives you the complete set of official "for navigation" raster charts for the entire UK with its huge coastline (more than the entire Baltic Sea), plus Atlantic France from Cape Finistere, Belgium, and the Netherlands, for 58 GBP (less than 70 euros).

And oeSENC licenses for UK, France, Belgium, Netherlands and Germany are even much cheaper. The charts are very good as well. oeSENC - o-charts
All as a result of the O-Charts organization and Dave's extensive work on the oeSENC_pi plugin.

They are vector charts, unfortunately, but I'll still have the German ones. Thanks for the tip!

Is he thinking about doing raster charts? Or expanding the coverage into the Baltic?

There's some ongoing work on this, yes. Let's see what's happening during forthcoming months. I also heard about Dave's speculation to improve the BSB4 plugin.

Re: Raster Charts BSB3 Sweden and Finland

Hello Dockhead,

I sailed for 3 years in the Baltic. First the Danish and German coasts, then two years in Sweden and even in the Finnish archipelagos. I will for a long time keep an excellent memory of these Swedish archipelagos. Be it the archipelago of Stockholm or Bohusland.

And I am extremely happy with the Soltek charts. I learned to trust them to avoid all the pitfalls that clutter the extraordinary channels of the archipelagos. Obviously, you need a good GPS and a good marine mapping software.

Indeed! The archis are extraordinarily complex waters -- far more complex than any other place I've sailed. And extraordinarily beautiful -- some of the best cruising in the world.

They do test your navigation, pilotage, and passage planning abilities to the max, though! Why I continue to long for better charts.

Re: Raster Charts BSB3 Sweden and Finland

Hello
New year and new trouble ...
After updating opencpn to version 4.8.0 on ubuntu the soltek's charts (cdf10 south coast of finland) disappear when zooming.
Starting opencpn evrything seems just fine and all charts are shown.

When I zoom in I see only world basemap ... when I zoom in to closest projection I see soltek's chart .. any zooming out the world map is back.
The charts I bought last year so they shouldn't be outdated.
I have scanned charts and forced full database rebuild .. no help.
Please tell if you have solution to this. cheers .. uffek

Please update to the latest stable version 4.8.2.

In Options->Display->Advanced there is a slider for Chart Zoom/ Scale Weighting adjustment. Please play around with this setting until you find a value that works for your display.

It's even easier. Use shortcut key "D" and you will be able to adjust the same setting with instant feedback.(from 4.8.2)

I'm using a similar chart set, cdSV, and OCPN 4.8.0, 4.8.2 (and even newer) on different devices. (Win10, Debian_Jessie, Ubuntu 14..) Works like a charm.
First I do agree to earlier posts. Do use OCPN 4.8.2. -> latest stable.
Next to all other advices: I've once seen a mismatch in the raster charts while playing around testing different OCPN version up and down. And you've tried to "Scan Charts and update..." and "Force full Data base rebuild..." in Options>Charts tab?
Try:
Options>Display>Advanced>OpenGl button Options....> Clear or rebuild Texture Cache. (If rebuild it will take a great while to complete)
