Problems with course up and Chartworld Charts

Hi,

I have installed OpenCPN on Intel NUC with Ubuntu desktop and I have a USB GPS connected. I have purchased Chartworld Charts via o-charts and chartworld homepage. Everything is working fine until I start "course up" mode (I have OpenGL enabled in OpenCPN).

When I start course up the boat suddenly changes its position, and it is impossible to navigate with it. It looks like it is not able to rotate the charts.

Does anybody know why this happens and what I can do to fix it?

Thank You!

Relax...

What version of OpenCPN are you running?

Could you post a screenshot?

Any difference with OpenGL disabled?

Thanks
Dave

Hi,

Will try to check those things out tomorrow and provide a screenshot when I go down to the boat. Thanx for the answer!

Re: Problems with course up and Chartworld Charts

Please attach some NMEA log as this might help as well.

Chartworld Charts are S-63 charts.

Just tried some on our MAC - Course-up we don't use normally - and the result is stable, but not that nice. OpenGL On and OFF

Re: Problems with course up and Chartworld Charts

That looks very much like what it looks like at my computer with course up. Some fields on the map is grayd out. In addition my boat is on the wrong position. Are you using s-63 on those mac screenshots?

Re: Problems with course up and Chartworld Charts

Yes, these are S-63 charts - same as your Chartworld set.

Looks that the charts are rotated from a wrong center.
Look at the boat. On the OpenGL OFF clip the position is ok - the receiver is on land. With OpenGL ON we are in the water, what is not the case in reality.

Thank you! I will try with/without OpenGL tomorrow. Maybe OpenGL is the problem....

Re: Problems with course up and Chartworld Charts

Hi,

Sorry for the delayed feedback.

This is my hardware: Intel® NUC Kit D34010WYK Product Specifications

I have 8GB of memory in it, and either 80GB SSD(Windows) or 30GB SSD(Ubuntu). Also has wifi board installed.

I went out with the boat today to test course up with/without OpenGL enabled in OpenCPN.

A1) With OpenGL enabled. Course Up enabled. The boat is in the wrong position, and grey areas appear on the screen from time to time. See attached image 1. Boat should be in the drawed circle.

A2) With OpenGL enabled. Course Up disabled. The boat is in the right position, and the screen otherwise looks fine.. See attached image 2.

B) With open GL disabled. I went into trouble her. The OpenCPN application went into a "frozen" state and the computer became unresponsive. I was not able to test navigation with OpenGL disabled. Had to kill the app several times to get the computer working again.. Se attaches image 3

Hope that helps. I have the same issue on Windows 10 - I am not able to test any other setups as i have used up mye 2 install permits for the Chartworld Charts.

Best regards
Baard - norway.

relax-norway...

interestingly enough your posts are showing up in my mail as follow-ups....

You are mentioning that you don't have any S-63 InstallPermit for your S-63 Chartworld charts left.
Seems to me that this is not the case. Have a look at the FAQs of S-63.

Hi.

This is my hardware: Intel® NUC Kit D34010WYK Product Specifications
I have 8 GB ram. 80/30Gb SSD (Windows or Ubuntu)

Tested today these scenarios:

A: Open GL enabled, Course Up enabled.
Boat in wrong position. some gray areas on screen from time to time. Se image 1. Boat should be in the marked position at the right.

B: Open GL enabled, Course Up disabled(North UP)
Bot in right position. Screen look fine. Se image 2

B: Open GL disabled
Application "frezes" And computer gets sluggish. Had to kill OpenCPN to get comuter working again. Not able to test. Tested several times.

This happens om both windows 10 and Ubuntu. I am not able to teste other setups as I have used up my two install permits.

Something fishy with the posting...Dont know what happens with them. Says the forum administrator has to confirm or something. Hope the information provided is adequate.

I will check the S-63 FAQ. I was under the impression that you only could have two install permits.

Postings from recent users with bigger attachments are checked manually at this forum and will (most probably) surface with some delay.
