Print Charts?

Is it possible, with any versions of CPN, to print whole charts, including chart boarders and title blocks, at full scale (assuming you print to a file or you have a large scale printer that can do the job)?

I used to be able to do this with Maptech software, but that software no longer works with Windows 7 64. I've looked in CPN and the only similar function that I was able to find was the ability to print the current screen, but I can't zoom out far enough to get the full chart, including margins and title block on the screen, and it doesn't print at the full chart resolution. When I do this printing, I'm printing to a PDF and I can set my "paper" size to any value, since it's all digital.

So, is there a setting I'm missing to make full size printing possible, or if it not, might be something easily added?

Thanks,

Argyle

Re: Print Charts?

A few years ago I paid $25 to Maptech to update to V 5.08 which works on my W7 64 bit laptop. Don't know if it's still available.

Thanks for the reply, but I don't know if that plugin is supported anymore. There is no mention of the plugin on their website and a google search of the .dll within the site revealed no hits. A global google search of Xbsb.dll only reveals a bunch of sites that offer advice or services in case the file has been corrupted, but I didn't see any that have a link to the file itself.

Anyway, a in my searching I found this:

SourceForge.net: BSB Reader - Project Web Hosting - Open Source Software

Doesn't come with a whole lot of explination, but doesn't need it. You download the installer, install it, run the program and point the the folder where your .bsb/.kap files are and where you want your graphic files located and hit go and it will convert every file in the folder (takes a while if you have a lot of .bsb's. I chose .tif files and opened one up and zoomed all the way in and the detail is there.

Still kind of curious as to whether OpenCPN can do the full chart print. All the data is in there after all, there just isn't a way to route the data for a whole chart in to the print spooler. Maybe this would run into someones patents or somethings, or maybe no one as asked for this feature before.

Re: Print Charts?

Just use "imgkap" on the charts .kap file you want to print, to create a full size png image. Then use your favorite image viewer/editor for printing.
