Re: Portable execution - please unbundle the install

"The hard part in all of this seems to be changing the entrenched views of a few and convincing the developers / coders that a stand alone fully portable install package is the route that should be followed for the installation."

No, actually, the hard part of all this is prioritization of very limited dev resources. The devs focus primarily on bugs directly affecting the 90% user class. The Windows installer architecture does not fall into that category.

Have you noticed that we are getting around 5000 downloads per week of Version 3.2.0? Installer architecture issues do not surface in the real world of sailors using OpenCPN on boats. Other things do...

Thanks for your support

Re: Portable execution - please unbundle the install

...the unspoken thing is, the newer vcredist_x86.exe sends you off to MS where your computer is inspected and updated...to SP3. I would not let them "update" my computer -I am running SP1 with selected updates from SP2. Having read the Readmes that go with the ton of updates, 95% or more are absolutely useless to me.
