Re: Polyconic quilt gone wrong

Dave

good to see you taking this on, I have seen the partial merge of the projection branch, currently compiling on Linux. On the NavPC (Win10) I have been using Sean's projection branch 4.1.702 ever since, I need to go back and play with 4.1.602.

BTW: opencpn.org is down!! The mysqli error was: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2).

One idea for reproducing: I had this strange effect sometimes happening after panning heavily. Example: plan a route thru all the bends thru the Detroit river, from Lake St Clair to Lake Erie, using the most detailed charts. It works fine for a while, then suddenly after panning (or zooming?) all my waypoints are way off. Post #1 was my way to make it reproducable, but maybe something (layer/memory..) was screwed up already when I tried this. Once opencpn.org is up and I can download 4.1.602, I will try again. There are quite a few Flyspray entries on waypoints wandering, hopefully we can get this out of the way.

Re: Polyconic quilt gone wrong

Dave

i just did a clean install of 4.1.602 on win10 and followed my own instructions in post #1, it took a while and some extra work to make it happen.

It does not seem to happen with opengl off (default of a clean install). After enabling opengl it seems to only happen when I pan, the pan hasn't finished drawing and I zoom (mousewheel) while it is still panning. Once it happened, the waypoints stay at the wrong location for a specific zoomlevel.

Does this make more sense? more repeatable?

Dirk

Re: Polyconic quilt gone wrong

Tried it with v4.1.915 compiled for Windows with VS2013 a little while ago.
Quote:
>git branch -va
* android 7ed3cbd 4.1.915
Loaded 14853_23.KAP
In single chart mode F9
Created a route down the middle of the river.
Hit F9 to go into quilting again.
Panned back and forth and nothing changed. The route did not jump.
Zoomed in and out too..

Re: Polyconic quilt gone wrong

dirk...

I tried your test case on a clean 4.1.602 load. Just once, in numerous zoom/pans, I produced the effect.

Then I tried on unreleased 4.1.9xx test build, with Sean's enhanced projections logic merged. I could not reproduce the effect here, with lots of zooming/panning around.

So is it solved? Time (and the next Beta) will tell.

But I sure wish I understood it a little better, and had a clear method to reproduce on demand.

We'll see...

New git fetch, compile and tried it again too.
Saw no jump or change in the route.

@rgleason..

Rick...
You probably want to be working on the master branch, not the android branch. Master is getting the bulk of the changes this week.

Thanks for your tests.
