Re: Plugin: DashBoard

Hello Dave,

In Crowdin, a new item, "Mag COG" just appear in the language file of the plugin dasboard:

He already had there an item that is "Mag HDG". There is also True HDG.

What is the meaning of "Mag COG"?
What difference do you between these two items?

So far, in the heart of OpenCPN, "Course up" could be understood as "COG Up".

What meaning do you give here "COG"?

Thank you for your answer because in the present state of things, I do not know how to translate this new item (and I wonder if my translations of Mag HDG and "True HDG" "must be reviewed.)

Gilletarom...
The missing string is my bad, sorry.
COG = course over ground from the GPS
HDG = heading from the compass

They are a different thing

Re: Plugin: DashBoard

Hello Thomas,

I just look in the wiki to 4.0. About the Dashboard, there is a list of 40 instruments.

Would it be possible, for each instrument, to give a brief explanation of what appears as information?

Thank you in advance.

Best regards. Gilletarom.

A GPS is he able to give direction to the magnetic north COG?

The direction relative to magnetic north COG is it recalculated to be displayed by this new instrument?

Gilletarom...
It depends, some GPS receivers have the WMM model built in, some don't.
The cheap USB pucks usually don't

Hi,

I have tested the "Barometric history" and I would like to suggest to change automatic scale to reasonable values. I have 200 hPa (912 - 1112) so It is VERY difficult to see very important changes like 2-3hPa per hour.

Re: Plugin: DashBoard

kubek...
the problem obviously is the "Overall max" of 999000, which is a total nonsense, of course. It is internally stripped to 1100, but it is not enough...
Please file it into the tracker, I will have a look after 4.0 is out.

Hi,

I've just pushed a commit to skip values > 1100 hPa. Can you give it a try? (if you can build from source) Or send me a VDR sample so I can test it.

Thanks,
Jean-Eudes

Re: Plugin: DashBoard

Hi all,

Thanks for the great openCPN. I love it.

I have one problem and hope to find help:

I am trying to display VMG in the Dashboard. unfortunately it just shows "---" Once activated the route in openCPN, VMG is shown in the route window but no value in the dashboard.

System:
lubuntu
OpenCPN 4.0
USB GPS dongle

I was thinking the dashboard might use only NMEA data and tryed to export NMEA sentence VTG and reimport it. But no VTG sentences are exported through openCPN.

Does anyone have an idea how to solve or work around the problem showing VMG in the dashboard.

Cheers Robert

Robert...
Yes, the dashboard plugin is just displaying the NMEA data, it does not calculate anything.

Re: Plugin: DashBoard

Gerhard...
Could you attach a VDR recording of a data stream to reproduce the problem?

Thanks

I checked this now. Used for the number of "Sats in View" is GSV which is of course correct. However it is better to use field 7 of GGA which shows the number of Sats used for the fix and is not the same as in GSV. This is far more important because the fix is better with a higher number of Sats used for it. So I suggest a new item "Sats used for fix".
