plug ins not showing in 4.80, one one laptop, work on another?

I have a weird problem. I have two laptops, #1 an Asus I had to wipe and reload win 10 and #2 a new Dell I bought as a spare whilst #1 was being 'geeked' When I loaded stuff onto the new Dell It included opencpn 4.2(the released one at that time) plus google earth and logbook konni plug ins, neither showed in the tools/plugins list. After reloading win 10 as a reset on the older Asus however I downloaded 4.80 plus the google earth and konni plugins and they worked, woohoo! flush with that success I installed 4.80 plus GE and Konni on the newer Dell, but NO plugins even the included ones like dashboard show in the tools/options/plugins. So I tried uninstalling opencpn, reinstalling both 4.8 and the plug ins from a blank canvas and tried again, and again, no luck whatsoever.

I'm quite sure it is most likely dumbo operator error and can always just use the other 'puter alone but it is nice to have both and would like both to work like they should

So what did I do to screw up and how can I put it right? I promise not to try DIY in future and will get the great grandkids on the job!

Robin,

You can find the log file by clicking the "About OpenCPN" tool in the toolbar. It has an icon that looks like a book with ? on the cover. Then you can click the button that says copy log file to clipboard. Then paste that into a reply message here. That's the easiest way for now. There is another way that is a bit more complex.

Robin,

If you make a copy of the opencpn.log file and compress it to .zip then rename that file from opencpn.zip to opencpn.pdf it will let you attach it to a message. I know that's a little convoluted but that's how we have to get around the forum's software that thinks it is smarter than we are.

It doesn't take very much to be smarter than me. I did that and have it saved but cannot attach it to a reply or a PM. it says invalid file type

If you rename it with .pdf then the software will think it is a valid type.

Robin3...

OK, we got the log. Thanks for your persistence.

We see the plugins loading correctly ( Dashboard, konnilog, etc.).
But I suupose you do not see them on the toolbar?

Are these plugins enabled in the Settings->Plugins tab?

Thanks
Dave

They are not showing on the tool bar nor showing in the options/plugins page which is totally blank. On my other machine they showed up and I enabled each one and they then appeared as buttons which worked. Even the standard installed ones , like dashboard and WMM are not showing.

Re: plug ins not showing in 4.80, one one laptop, work on another?

Dave..
This is the third report for the same issue I suppose.
The others are mentioned here: http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ml#post2493917
t-dan made a debug trial to trace it. http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ml#post2495093
I've built t-dans patch ok but haven't been able to test it on the machine for which I reported the first time. That's because it's not mine and the user is on vacation.
