Pilot Chart Usage

I just downloaded pilot charts for the N & S Pacific in KAP format via the OpenCPN web site. Im running OpenCPN on Android (paid Google Play version).

The issue I am having is that the pilot chart does not display until Ive zoomed in to a view that only covers roughly 10° of latitude. Too small of an area to really be worthwhile for planning purposes and getting a big picture view of wind patterns.

Anyway to force this to display at higher zoom levels?

For the Android version it is best to post your comments and questions to the forum for that version.

Re: Pilot Chart Usage

Why not just use download the online pilot charts?

Will probably do that. Already have the Atlantic PDFs.

I believe that is the way Kaps work. We would need additional Kaps at different scales. I haven't tried them for awhile though. I use the climatolgy plugin on a laptop.

Re: Pilot Chart Usage

The pilot charts appear at Scale 9883100 (1.0x)
They disappear above that, and you can zoom in below that.
I do not know if there is a way of increasing the scale range.
I find Climatology more configurable and useful with weather_routing.

I would prefer the climatology plug in, but not yet available on Android.

Im reviving an old Windows laptop. I may load up the full OpenCPN version and all plugins on that.

Please disable chart quilting in Options-Display-General.
Try again!

I just got his World Cruising Routes...too bad the atlas isnt available as a collection of GRIBs. Would be great for route planning.

The climatology plugin uses the same data as well as more.

Re: Pilot Chart Usage

Why do you need Jimmy Cornell's routes when Climatology with Weather_routing will basically recreate them?

At the moment, I only have OC on Android so no Climatology plug in. Plus, I like multiple source of info, Cornell's book has more than just a weather route display in it.
