But this is orthogonal to the fact that the source code for a GPLv2 app MUST be provided upon request. And a bought (binary) app may legally be distributed to third parties. (Unless Dave Register, as lead developer, has the full copyright on all code contained in the Android app and is then of course not bound to the GPLv2 requirements.).
There is no special Android source code. It is all included in the OpenCPN source code. If you had followed the instructions in the ap or in OpenCPN, for that matter, you would have ended up here -> https://github.com/OpenCPN/OpenCPN

Check it out. There is even some instructions for cross compiling Android, if you want to punish yourself....

Re: Paid vs Free Android OpenCPN

At times there will be no code. And what then? I make software using a visual blocks language. Should I publish the images of the blocks then?

I think people who ask some questions never take the time and apparent effort to read some before blurting out their misguided arguments.

And when they get pointers, rather than read and discuss, get stuck with their original concept of programmers' guilt.

Getting stuck with our own concepts because they are ours is well known to psychologists and profusely described both in scientific and popular sources.

Have a fine day. Read.

Thank you for the info! (If I had an Android, I would pay the reasonable fee)

I don't see how this is relevant here. But, hypothetically, if you would take GPL2'ed visual blocks and enhance and distribute an app based on them, you would need to provide source (your visual blocks, Labview maybe, certainly will be stored in some readable format, no?).

@transmitterdan: I didn't ask (and didn't know that Android code is included as mentionend by Thomas above)

I have the free version on my Xperia tablet but cannot install charts. I have tried to get the paid version but Google Play Store says Not Available in your country. I am in Grenada.

Bypass that silly limitation by using a free web-proxy. Use Google to find one.

Re: Paid vs Free Android OpenCPN

Thomas, Good day
I am using the paid version of android to see how it works. Things seems fine except that I can not change the ship to my version. Could it be possible in a next update?
Thanks, I like it.
