I don't think you are going to find a file suitable for oTCurrent. Best option might be a grib, such as one from Index of /MyOcean. The very large file 'IBI.grb.gz' made O 4.6.1 crash (Windows 8.1) but you may have better luck. 'Gibraltar.grb.gz' should not be a problem.

@Rasbats: thanks for the link. Have the same issue with the large ISI file but Gibraltar and Biscay do show in the grib plugin fine. Now I only need to find cp Finistre down data somewhere

Have you installed the V10 Harmonics data from Merak?

Mar?es, mar?gramme

This has tides all the way down to Gibraltar, and currents (which you can use with oTCurrent) down the French Biscay coast.

Thanks, have overwritten my harmonics files and also set the directories in ini file correct but for some reasons I dont see any arrows etc.
Have zoomed in at Les Sables and La Rochelle (assume both must have current data) but

Platform Win10 and Raspi - same nothing.
Anything else I could try?

Re: oTcurrent files for Biscay till Gibraltar

We sailed all the way down there and the difficult bit is the charts are sometimes not as accurate as they should be and if you can get local knowledge it will help. For instance Portugal is a nightmare. There are so many fishing pots you have to pretty close to the shipping lanes especially when sailing at night (some pots were in 100m). The current further out from the coast is better by a knot a mile out.
Keep well if Finisterre because of the strong winds you can get round there and be very wary of the headland when you get towards the bottom of Portugal and start heading East. That can go from nothing to 30 knots in a second. (Also watch for submarines around there as well.
If you pass Barbate (cape Trafalgar) their are some weird and strong currents going in different directions.
There is actually a slope of about 1m going through the straits of Gibraltar and an undercurrent which goes against the current.
If you are sailing down that way and need some information on places to stop then this may be useful.

skipperearly,

In ->Tools->Charts you will see a tab for 'Tides & Charts'.

https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...s_and_currents

Use that tab and add the directory where you are holding 'HARMONIC.IDX'. No need to overwrite! You can add several folders with different versions of 'HARMONIC.IDX' (Keep the capitals).

Re: oTcurrent files for Biscay till Gibraltar

I have downloaded a fresh HARMONIC.IDX file and replaced it in the original OpenCPN tcdata directory.

I then deleted the original HARMONICS file and directory and connected to
the OpenCPN/tcdate directory with the new HARMONICS.IDX file and clicked OK

I have ticked the tides and currents buttons in the OpenCPN top nav bar but I can not see any tidal or currents information on the chart??

What am I doing wrong?

Torre,

The V10 harmonics zip contains two files: HARMONIC and HARMONIC.idx. You can make a new folder with those two files in it. Then add the folder using the 'Tides & Currents' tab. Both of the V10 files are needed.

Hi Sinbad7,

You only have to select the .idx file.

Re: oTcurrent files for Biscay till Gibraltar

When I clicked the .idx file, it downloaded a whole lot but it will not access any of that information although I have used the standard path for the updated .idx file. Strange...

Re: oTcurrent files for Biscay till Gibraltar

V10 only contains two files. Your screenshot shows three. As AISEAG says you only need to select the HARMONIC.IDX file. No need to double click the .IDX file. Suggest you extract the two files from the zip to a completely new folder. With the 'Tides & Currents' tab locate that folder, select HARMONIC.IDX and use the 'open' button .
