Re: Optimized Opencpn: Testers Needed

Sean..
The new version pulled and built for release using cmake.
I copied the newly released opencpn.exe file to the opencpn program directory and renamed it to "opencpn_sean.exe". (In that way I use an own ini file separated from the one belonging to the original version of 3.3.1303)
Settings:
-The OpenGL is disabled in Opencpn. (In opencpn.ini: "OpenGL=0")
-Two plugin .dll files are present in "c:\program\opencpn\plugins". Dashboard_pi and grip_pi
-No plugins are activated from start.
-Only vector charts (CM93) are loaded.
Two tests for a start:
>First I activated a network AIS connection.
Result: Works fine
>Second I activated dashboard_pi from the Toolbox.
Result: Crash! - The crash report was created. Follow this link to download: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...5c054ab77a.zip

I did it three times and the result was the same.
Running the original 3.3.1302 version using the same set-up is working without problem.
Please tell me what I can do more.
Håkan

Hakan, when you ran MSVC++ in release mode, did you copy the new plugin/grib_pi/release dll and similar for dashboard? --I guess you must have.

Re: Optimized Opencpn: Testers Needed

Trying the SeanO ...OpenGL is actually working very well on an XP Dell510m with an integrated video card. (512mb total RAM) Just one plugin,Pavel's WMM magnetic.
I actually have to use the ALT and CTRL key modifiers to slow the (smooth) panning and zooming down which is a new thing for me!
I only have the CM93s loaded on this machine but some preliminary on another Dell (a gb of RAM) with a ton of Rasters loaded has been good too, though I couldd make it choke a bit on THAT machine when I really pushed it...(other apps running, changing charts, hitting buttons, zoom, pan) but O has always been pretty hard to crash and this version so far, also pulls herself together after a stumble.

I am tinkering with the new settings available for opengl but will likely get lost in there...
I'm running Hakan's version from post 20
Optimized Opencpn: Testers Needed

..The choice of "Transparent toolbar" is greyed out, but I was able to set transparency in the ini file.

Rick..
First - This release was made of cmake and not VC++. But I used VC++ on Sean's previous version. Do you think that will make any difference? Well - I can try later to release also with VC++.

Second - Yes I copied also the newly released Dashboard_pi and grib_pi. But before that I tried with those belonging to the original 3.3.1303 and I can't say I noticed any differences.

Re: Optimized Opencpn: Testers Needed

Later...
I've another release now made in VC++ and there is no difference. Crash when activating a plugin. This time the WMM.

Re: Optimized Opencpn: Testers Needed

I mispoke- modifier CTRL key does not work for -/+...

On that other Dell now (a D420) WMM and Dashboard enabled

important?...with OpenGL ONLY,my personal ownship disappeared at scale 381000 ( raster and cm93) and the O "Target" did not replace it. However, F2 autofollow centres chart ok.
Also it changed colour from the non-gps grey to blue! Couldn't care less but worth mentioning...It is an xpm and "deprecated" now ?

open gl RAM useage peaked at 500mb on THIS Dell with 1ghz total. (where defaults 512,256 in Dialogue used) Ram was immediately released when switching to another app which is good.

The "hover-on-chartbar-and-highlight-chart" seems to work better on this. (I forgot to mention that this has been odd lately, sometimes, in the Beta thread.)

Re: Optimized Opencpn: Testers Needed

Again! May I be nagging??
But I've stopped the probably silly thing to rename the exe file and now it works without crash even when I use plugins.
And it's also working when the OpenGL is activated.
So--- back to normal testing.

Sorry if I made trouble for anyone.

This only happens without a gps attached.

OpenGL ONLY, ownship does not change colour with gps on. It is blue from actual xpm colour orange and red (GPSOn)

Re: Optimized Opencpn: Testers Needed

Sean
Kubuntu 13.10 64 bits.
*
It looks like I have a unique problem.
With Chucks patches I had a problem with uncontrollable zooming using the scroll wheel. If I started to zoom out, for example, I could not stop it with the scroll wheel. The only way was by pressing "-". Similar if I tried zooming in.
This problem still exists, but now even the "-" & "+" buttons are unreliable. I can't yet see a pattern. Sometimes they work, sometimes there is uncontrollable zooming.
* The outlines of CM93 chart are persistent. The are not supposed to show in quilt mode.
*The outlines of raster charts are not always there, when viewing in a small scale. No pattern. Comparing charts of the same scale, some may show others not. Zooming in eventually brings up all outlines.

Re: Optimized Opencpn: Testers Needed

re: OpenGL only,no gps
behaviour is the same.with default Ownship...no ownship "target" zoomed out (scale about 381000)
However, colours are ok (grey(nogps-red withgps)

ps: Hakan, WMM plugin works fine with me, using your earlier windows' exe ...???

Re: Optimized Opencpn: Testers Needed

Sean...
Yes it's working!
I'm running with or without OpenGL and with the plugins I tested so far. And I have been running OpenCPN using OpenGL witch newer was a good idea before. My old machine then used to be very tired and slow. Though without any numbers to support it I can say the performance is better.
Two failures so far:
> The GPS indicator is not shown.
> The AIS alarm is not working.
See my screen captures of -1- the AIS settings and -2- the situation where it should have been an alarm.

Using Hakan compiled version W, I confirm that GPS indicator not visible and AIS alarm not working. But it is possible to choice and test alarm.

It seem that WMM run well. But I have some displayed problem when I Zoom -

Using simultaneously, dasboard, it is impossible to dock a vertical dasboard on the left of screen

It seem that grib plugin run well.

Re: Optimized Opencpn: Testers Needed

In addition to #32:
Only "master" on
OpenGL on, all options off
more than 800 Sweden AIS targets
delay of mouse less than 1 sec
all shown plug-ins dont crash OCPN, not yet fully tested
the results of my "overload-tests" are shown in the pictures
mouse-delay on my "slave" with standard-beta is about 5 sec
gratulations !!!

Re: Optimized Opencpn: Testers Needed

Sean.. at all.
A couple of failures to add. (I'm using WinXP and the last git version)

Failures
> When I from the Toolbox chose "North up" it's working but switching back to "course up" is not working.
I've tried this with "OpenGL" both activated and not activated and the behaviour is the same. (Gille.. and Gnomon; Could you maybe verify?)

> With "OpenGL" activated the chart text (_texto) is updated very slowly. When the boat is moving and the chart moves accordingly the text fields are invisible for minutes.
When "OpenGL" is not activated the text update is more or less immediate. (See also note 1)

Notes
1>
The OpenGL feature now has a lot of properties. I don't understand the impact of the different choices and could need a couple of explanations. Please help me!
2>
I'm now using version 2 of Sean's OpenCPN. Since I alter between the original version and Sean's version I can sometimes throw into confusion which program version that is currently running. May I suggest you to use another version number for each update? This could for example be 3.3.13032 for the version currently in Git. (Indicating that it's based on 1303 and this is the second update)
Thanks Håkan
