Re: Optimized Opencpn: Testers Needed

Hakan,
Downloaded this http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ml#post1447984

Hope iit is most current...

Found an Opencpn.pot file, isn't that for compiling? Is so, then I have to do a git clone of sean's optimized-Opencpn.... I don't know first thing about internationalization.... where do I put the file?

Anyway, can't I just use your compiled Opencpn-Sean.exe in my 3.3.1303 directory?
Going to try it now anyway.

Dell XPS L502X 15 Inspiron Laptop, 8gb ram, i7-2720QM at 2.20Ghz 64 bit, Win7
This laptop has two video cards, on board Intel HD Graphics and NVIDIA Geforce GT 540M adapter
For Opengl I have it set to be using the Nvidia adapter.

I also should probably test this on a old Dell small Laptop with XP, in several days.
Has similar video card to yours Hakan.

What do you want me to exercise in particular

Thanks

Re: Optimized Opencpn: Testers Needed

It seemed to be working fine, fast. Then bombed it twice and sent reports...
1. Turned on follow (have no gps enabled right now)
2. It Zoomed to the boat.
3. Right click on the chart (its on CM93 charts) and pick BSB
4. It bombs.

Should I regen the BSB charts?
Would the SENC have chaged?

Rick..
Yes there is nothing more pushed to Git until today.

The Pot file should be placed in the /po directory of the git source files and be used if you would like to update a .po file for translation. Not much use for you "over there" I think.
For the .exe file I saw you found a proper use.

Re: Optimized Opencpn: Testers Needed

Sean..
I had the opportunity to test version 23034 on a newer machine running Win7.
There I was able to use OpenGL and see the nice graphic. I tested using raster BSB and vector charts and on that machine the performance where rather acceptable for both. Minor less zoom updating speed for raster than for vector charts but useful. There was one occasion with some weird border between the raster and vector charts but moving up and down it eventually disappeared. I was repeatable when moving fast over the border. See my screen shots.
But the opportunity to show both raster and vector is as said before really outstanding and I think it's only Opencpn that have this feature. So if you manage to develop also the raster rendering O will be even more fantastic.
Thanks Håkan

Re: Optimized Opencpn: Testers Needed

Sean..
Crash report on a Win7, 2.2 GHz, 3GB, ATI...Radeon HD4000 256 MB.
OCPN 3.3.13034 pulled from Git Jan 25. OpenGL is activated
This crash scheme is repeated four times and it was exactly the same manner each time.
1. O is opened viewing a CM93 chart and have two available BSB charts. See capture 1.
2. I choose the leftmost BSB by a mouse click.
3. I start to move East using the left arrow key. See capture2
4. Continue moving east. Now the BSB chart is very close to the screen edge. Capture3
5. Further moving and when the BSB is passing the edge the crash occurs.

Q: Why does O choose to view the World map instead of the available CM93 chart?

The log says the same thing before every crash:

I've two crash reports available if you wish - just ask.
I will not touch that PC's OCPN more until a I've next version to test. Could be fine for verifying?

Chuck..
Nice! I actually saw this before but have forgot to report.
I've tested your patch and it works fine. The route line is now red when selected instead of invisible.

If someone would like to test it's now included in my Win-exe file in the zip here:

Re: Optimized Opencpn: Testers Needed

I have a whole bunch of bug fixes but my tree is broken and I lack the memory to remember enough to fully and effectively use git while dealing with this.

Thanks chuck for the fixes, I think I am getting pretty close. I have a mouse with a wheel now!

Re: Optimized Opencpn: Testers Needed

Sean,
During the entire time I was using Weather_routing and Climatology for these routings, I was also running 3.3.13034! Just realized that, and I thought it was acting quicker and without any complaints during that time. It did involve some good exercise and commands. Using Opengl on Dell XPS 15 with Nvidia Geforce 540m card.

Re: Optimized Opencpn: Testers Needed

Good to hear not any issues for you. Wait a few days or week or so and I should have version 5 which hopefully will improve the loading time of raster charts by about a factor of 50 (it's incredibly inefficient the way it is currently)

Re: Optimized Opencpn: Testers Needed

I do not know when I can finish work on this fork (or anything else related to opencpn) now that I have no working computer to use for development.

My computer had a daily kernel panic due to cpu temperature above 80C. I took it apart to clean any dust, but there wasn't much, and verify the fan worked correctly. When I put it back together (I was very careful) the computer no longer posts bios. I have taken this machine apart in the past to repair broken buttons, and clean out dist, so I do not know what I did wrong, but I was experiencing a lot of abnormal behavior over the last few months.

Unfortuately (since my tree was a mess I didn't push with git) a lot of bugs I fixed for this patch as well as the optimized raster work is on a solid state drive which I cannot access. Currently I must use internet cafe because I discovered my backup computer no longer functions either.

Re: Optimized Opencpn: Testers Needed

Sean,

This is to let you know that I am going to contribute towards a computer. I can't imagine working on Opencpn without your talents and contributions, so hopefully others will pitch in too.
I think I'll use your "About the Author" webpage About with the paypal donate button in your website. If you think a Mac is the answer and that it can run Windows and Linux to in a Virtual Machine, that's fine with me too. I think it would be great to fully support the Mac and I hope the community will see how your offer will help all Mac users too.

No doubt you will be able to salvage the hard drive and put it in a case with USB connection to use as additional backup, and you will find uses for the other parts, being a clever guy into Sustainability and Reuse, and I expect they will be used for boat control of some sort.

Also I really like what you are doing wiith Optimizing Opencpn.

Best
Rick
