Opening A Particular Chart

I have OpenCPN 4.8.8. I've got all of Florida downloaded on my home computer. I want to open Chart 11428, the Okeechobee Waterway. It's in the list of downloaded files. When I zoom in, certain parts of the OWW appear but others, that fall into that particular chart, do not.

Can you select and open a particular chart?

What happens when you click on the chart selector on the bottom of the screen? Any charts used should show up there. Check your settings and make sure chart file directories show up.

I clicked on the chart I need and only part of it showed up. But everything around it disappeared.

I'm trying to create a route across the OWW. I get to a certain point on 11428 and no matter what I do, the next section fails to show up.

Re: Opening A Particular Chart

Refer to "quilting" in the manual.

"Q" toggles quilt in general. With quilt ON, the rectangles on the chart bar have rounded edges, with OFF sharp edges.

And you can play with the zoom details slider at Options|Display|Advanced

Re: Opening A Particular Chart

From the chart number you cited it sounds like you are using raster charts (RNCs), not ENCs (vector charts). Some of the Okeechobee Waterway charts are small craft charts which do not show up on a quilted chart display. When you select one of those skewed charts quilting is temporarily turned off and you see just the selected chart. When you get to the edge of the chart you will have the opportunity to select the adjacent chart.

Skewed charts are easily identified by the red diagonal slash on their chart button.

Re: Opening A Particular Chart

Jules,

I've been playing around with the Okeechobee Waterway charts. I found that west of Port Mayaca chart 11428 is seen by OpenCPN as a skewed raster chart. From Port Mayaca east it is seen as a regular chart. But in order to see it you need to zoom in enough that it is brought to the top. As you zoom out 11428 gets buried by other smaller scale charts which do not show any St. Lucie Canal detail. If you don't want to zoom in so much you can temporarily turn off chart quilting. That prevents charts which cover the same area from competing for the display.

The checkbox to enable chart quilting is found in Settings/Display/General.

Chart quilting is automatically switched off for skewed charts but in this case OpenCPN doesn't think the chart is skewed.

Now I know what that red slash is. Thanks!
