Here is MY new 'ownship.xpm' Will it turn red and become directional when my ship is moving?

If the image itself is red, it will be red when you will have position data coming from the GPS. And yes, it will rotate around it's center according to your heading.

As a rough idea...the icons on your XP desktop are usually about 48x48 pixels.32x32 is smaller,16x16 is weeny,but nice for tooling through rocks...

they don't have to be square but at least rectangular...Transparency might be your next question...ie:so just the boat or whatever shows with no background.It's all on that thread I mentioned above.

The attached screen shows MY 'ownship.xpm' choices,basically two sizes of a motor yacht and sailboat,plus a symbolic blue ship icon.

MY selected 'ownship.xpm' a motor yacht,is also shown in color,the way it will show up when under way,otherwise black as shown when inactive.

I did download the icons, thank you for that. I will try the ownship you made also. I am not hugely motivated to move the boat today though, it is windy, the anchorage is 17meters and I only have a manual windless.....

Making an icon is way beyond my ability. I used a 'Tank Girl' logo just to be different, but it is far to big. No worries though, I will use one that has been made properly.

Thanks. I downloaded all the icons and then deleted the ones that I wouldnt use. I did notice though there were non for marking bars (not the sandy ones), Rum bottles or dancing girls.......

The icons you made are awesome! Thanks. I am waiting for the next edition and hoping they will have a slightly more 'naughtical' theme, ie rum bottles, dancing girls, bikinis, etc....... ;=)

PS-doesn't look too big to me. 32x is a handy size.

hahaha.....I actually just made it round with paint.net and it is looking better now. But I am going to be forced by my curiosity to move the boat just to see it move now.....And I must admit to feeling a little guilty that I am sitting in the saloon looking at the 'puter and not outside looking at nature.....
I am guessing that I could just get some images from google of rum bottles and dancing girls and turn them into .xpm with GIMP and then make them round and shrink them to fill in some of the voids in the current list of icons.....

1. A deck layout of your yacht or a photograph taken directly from above.
2. The length of your yacht.

You are welcome to PM the above to me.

If you do not have No. 1 above, you might want to search the internet (Google Images) for a deck layout of your yacht or perhaps from the yacht builder's website. One can also create a accurate image from scratch in CorelDraw and Photoshop like I did for my yacht shown below - but this takes a lot of time.

I am still working on finding a good deck layout but I cant find anything on Google Images. It is quite windy here at the moment which is putting me off climbing the mast.....I will though! Thanks.
