opencpn weather routing plugin not found

Daer Sirs,

i have installed opencpn on Kubuntu (vivid vervet 15.04), and i have tried to install the opencpn-weatherrouting plugin.
According to the user manual no download is necessary.
However, when installing the plugin:

$sudo apt-get install opencpn-plugin-weatherrouting

i get the following message:

"unable to locate package opencpn-plugin-weatherrouting".

Any suggestion?

usodimare...
Did you add the PPA to your system as described in the manual? Did you update the package list after that as described in the manual?
Ignore Sean's guess, the name if the package is of course correct on the plugin download page.

Re: opencpn weather routing plugin not found

I confirm the same simptoms...

Debian 7.0, PPA added (OpenCPN 4.0 installed from PPA and also: WMM-plugin, squiddio, climatology). And weatherrouting from .deb package.

But opencpn-plugin-weatherrouting, ...-polar, ...-logbookkonni - not found in repository.
Repository tree is up to date.

Knaz...
And the solution is still the same - you must change the configuration to make your Debian look like Ubuntu, in this case Precise.

Re: opencpn weather routing plugin not found - FEDORA

Hi,

I have the exact same problem but under Fedora. I can install all of the plugins I want BUT CAN NOT install those 3 :

opencpn-plugin-weatherrouting
opencpn-plugin-objsearch
opencpn-plugin-watchdog

In the instruction manual it just says use yum and nothing else.

Any ideas?

Cheers

That's because I've not (yet) packaged these plugins for Fedora.
I'll give it a try asap (I'm the owner of the Fedora/RHEL repo)

Re: opencpn weather routing plugin not found

Hi everyone, I am having a similar problem. I am running Debian 9, and I checked my corresponding Ubuntu would be Xenial.

When I tried to use the 'sudo add-apt-repository ppapencpn/opencpn' command, I had a OpenGPG error, so I assumed it was forcing HTTPS. I decided to add manually the sources, using

$ sudo vim /etc/apt/sources.list
and adding
deb Index of /opencpn/opencpn/ubuntu xenial main
deb-src Index of /opencpn/opencpn/ubuntu xenial main

as described in https://launchpad.net/~opencpn/+arch...=150&start=150

Then I run apt-get-update and then
$ sudo apt-get install opencpn-plugin-weatherrouting
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package opencpn-plugin-weatherrouting

Could you please provide me some guidance as to what I could be doing wrong?

Thanks!
Santi

Try: "apt-cache search opencpn" and see what packages are available (no need for sudo for this).
Should look something like:
Code:
$ apt-cache search opencpn
oernc-pi - Plugin for OpenCPN
oesenc-pi - Plugin for OpenCPN
ofc-pi - Plugin for OpenCPN
opencpn - Concise chartplotter and navigation software
opencpn-doc - Documentation for OpenCPN Navigation software
opencpn-gshhs-crude - World shoreline data for OpenCPN Navigation software
..
opencpn-plugin-watchdog - Plugin for OpenCPN
opencpn-tcdata - World shoreline data for OpenCPN Navigation software
opencpn-sglock-arm32 - SGLock Dongle support library
Also when looking at the page from the PPA: https://launchpad.net/~opencpn/+archive/ubuntu/opencpn you can select the distribution you are using. The available packages vary with the distribution selected. Weatherrouting should be available in bionic(18.04) and trusty(16.04).

Please be aware that not every distribution has a full list of packages. The general thing to do when using Ubuntu/Kubuntu is to look for the nearest LTS version and it MIGHT work.

That said you must have pretty important reasons to use a unmaintained 15.04 Kubuntu. If you would opt to reinstall consider using 18.04LTS (20.04LTS won't be available until right before the new sailing season).

Currently I have a beta-repository active, therefore you will find a different list if you used the standard opencpn PPA.

When you have an OpenGPG error I expect you have a problem with the key the developer supplied. No valid key usually means no packages (and problems using "apt update").

On a laptop with Debian I have a hard time using add-apt-repository (since it is a ubuntu addition). Adding the launchpad lines to sources.list and adding the key are the main points. So as long as you add both key and PPA, there should be no problem.

You have installed opencpn using apt?
Then you probably already crossed this bridge.

What do you see when you type "apt-cache search opencpn"?

From your post I can't get a clear picture, since in my understanding when you can install opencpn, weatherrouting should be available (both in xenial and bionic, I use bionic since my debian-version is newer). Therefore the apt-cache list might give some clues.

Code:
$ dpkg -l | grep opencpn
ii opencpn 5.0.0-0~bionic1 amd64 Concise chartplotter and navigation software
..
ii  opencpn-plugin-weatherrouting         1.300.1-0~bionic1                 amd64        Plugin for OpenCPN
